Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Design Technician located in our office in Galway and/or at the Vision-Built factory in Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo. The Design Technician will be responsible for technical drawing, communication with team members, utilising Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, and collaborating with structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
* Develop and prepare accurate and detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using BIM software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Vertex BD, SolidWorks, etc.)
* Apply drawing standards and model organisation principles. Maintain and update drawing registers to reflect your drawings.
* Manage and contribute to the production of shop drawings for factory assembly, ensuring precision and constructability.
* Review and revise drawings as required to reflect design changes or feedback.
* Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and technical data to produce high-quality design documentation.
* Ensure that all processes and procedures are followed according to the company standards.
* Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other departments to ensure design intent and compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
* Oversee and support team members with technical modelling and drawing tasks, ensuring adherence to project standards.
* Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, supporting their professional development.
* Collaborate with the coordination and integration of multidisciplinary design elements.
* Coordinate multiple model disciplines on live projects (Architectural, Structural, M&E, etc.).
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of materials, design standards, and industry trends.
* Ensure adherence to project timelines and manage multiple priorities effectively.
* Coordinate with other departments to ensure the projects meet their deadlines and budgets.
* Attend and contribute to design coordination meetings, offering constructive feedback and technical solutions.
* Conduct clash detection analyses and generate detailed reports, providing recommendations for resolution.
* Uphold and contribute to the continuous improvement of internal CAD/BIM standards and protocols.
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to software, equipment, or modelling practices.
* Generate and present technical support reports, identifying trends and recommending process enhancements.
Experience
* Proficiency with Revit, SolidWorks, and/or AutoCAD preferred.
* Strong knowledge of Technical Guidance Documents (TGDs).
* Proficient understanding of building systems, MMC preferred.
* Experience using Light Gauge Steel framing software.
* Excellent communication and organisation skills.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to manage time efficiently and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
* Strong willingness to integrate into a key member of the team.
* Experience of working within a team and leading a team.
* Strong understanding of engineering principles, building codes, and design practices relevant to your industry (e.g., civil, mechanical, architectural, electrical).
Qualifications / Training
* Lvl.7 Bachelors Degree in Architectural Technology, engineering, or related field.
* Minimum 2-4 years of experience in a design technician role.
