About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Independent Contractor Systems Engineer to support project managers in designing and deploying enterprise systems on our client's infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a broad technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to liaise effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will play a critical role in deploying, troubleshooting, and optimising complex IT systems while ensuring smooth project execution. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with Project Managers to determine the best approach for system deployments.Raise and manage infrastructure-related requests with operations teams to support system stand-up.Assist PMs in resolving technical issues that arise during project delivery.Troubleshoot complex system challenges, engaging the appropriate technical teams as needed.Develop and implement automation processes using Ansible and Terraform to improve system efficiency.Design, deploy, and manage containerized environments (Kubernetes, OpenShift).Capture High-Level Designs (HLD) and engage with application teams for Low-Level Designs (LLD).Ensure smooth network integration, with knowledge of micro-segmentation, DMZs, load balancers, and firewalls.Manage Windows and Linux environments with a solid understanding of VMware, storage, and databases.Oversee cybersecurity measures, particularly FortiGate firewalls and authentication protocols (SAML/OAuth).Implement and maintain monitoring systems to ensure high availability and performance. Key Skills & Experience Strong experience (5+ years) in a similar Systems Engineer role.Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with non-technical stakeholders.Networking expertise, including micro-segmentation, DMZs, load balancers, and firewalls.Proficiency in scripting and automation, particularly Ansible and Terraform.Experience in containerization technologies, such as Kubernetes (OpenShift experience is a plus).Proactive problem-solving mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement.Knowledge of system architecture, including Windows, Linux, VMware, storage, and databases.Cybersecurity experience, particularly in FortiGate firewall management.Authentication and access control knowledge (SAML, OAuth).Experience with monitoring tools for system performance and uptime. Qualifications & Certifications Relevant Engineering or IT Degree.Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, RHCE, Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), or AWS/GCP certifications are a plus.
