Job Description:
DP-5 Post doctoral Researcher/Scientist in Microwave/mm-Wave active circuits for 5G RF front-ends
Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term
The Advanced RF Technologies (ART) Group at Tyndall National Institute (TNI) and University College Cork is advertising for the position of the Post-doctoral Researcher/Scientist in Microwave/mm-Wave active circuits for 5G RF front-ends. Our team aims to recruit well-qualified and highly-motivated researchers with a strong background in RF/mm-Wave circuit design, power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers, RF front-end components, and integrated circuits. The post holder will be the lead researcher of an interdisciplinary and ambitious project that will research and develop highly-integrated and performance-enhanced RF front-ends for highly-versatile 5G RF transceivers. The postholder will require competences in RF circuit design, electromagnetic design, and linear and non-linear RF characterization. Furthermore, the postholder is expected to manage the project and co-supervise MS and PhD students.
The candidate will be given an initial 18-month contract with the potential for extension to a multi-year contract subject to performance and availability of funds.
The successful candidate will become a member of a diverse and vibrant community of academics, research professionals, and students at TNI and UCC and will have access to world-class design, characterization, and microfabrication facilities at TNI, UCC.
Key Responsibilities:
* Analysis, design, and modeling of active and passive RF front-end components and circuits.
* Integrated circuit (IC) design of components using commercially available process development kits (PDKs).
* RF characterization of devices, components, and RF sub-systems.
* Technical project management of research projects.
* Preparation of presentations and technical reports.
* Preparation of research papers for IEEE journals and conferences.
* Supervise and assist MS and PhD students.
* Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities, as required.
* Ensure all activities comply with the Tyndall Quality Management system.
* Ensure all activities comply with the required Health and Safety standards.
* Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.
Minimum Qualifications:
* PhD degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Microwave Engineering, or related discipline.
* PhD thesis or > 3+ years of post-PhD experience in the design and testing of RF active components: power amplifiers (PAs), low noise amplifiers (LNAs), PALNAs, active phase shifters, VCOs, or RF front-ends/transceivers.
* Proficient in using RF circuit and EM design tools, e.g. ADS (or similar), HFSS (or similar).
* Experienced in IC components design using PDKs, e.g. GaAs or GaN MMICs, CMOS (or similar).
* Proficient in linear and non-linear RF characterization of RF components.
* Proficient in characterizing RF components using a probe station.
* Strong publication record in IEEE journal and conference publications.
* Experience in filter design and tuning methods.
* Experience in PhD student mentorship/co-supervision.
* Experience in teaching.
Appointment may be made on the IUA Scale for Post-Doctoral Researchers €41,207-€47,477 pa and Senior Post-Doctoral Researchers €48,813 - €51,617 pa. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
