As a member of the regulatory policy team you will be working with policymakers and standard setting bodies on the adoption of workable and globally harmonized rules for digital assets. We are looking for someone who has worked extensively with (or within) an industry trade group, regulator, or standard setting organization on digital asset policy. Successful members of our team routinely organize written responses to discussion papers, concept releases, and proposals issued by regulatory authorities globally, and directly engage with staff at those regulatory bodies on the substance of the responses. This requires a firm understanding of how rules designed for traditional financial instruments can be adapted to digital asset issuance, transfer, custody, trading, and settlement such that they (1) do not impede digital asset innovation while (2) achieving equivalent regulatory outcomes.
For this role, there will be a particular emphasis on work performed by international organizations that work with national and supranational authorities on the adoption of regulatory frameworks, including the Financial Stability board (FSB), Basel Committee on Bank Supervision (BCBS), Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI), Bank of International Settlement (BIS), and International Organizations of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
7. Work with cross functional product/legal/policy teams to establish internal policy views on emergent regulatory issues
8. Brief executive level audiences on the potential impact of new/proposed rules on products and practices
9. Work with trade groups to establish consensus industry positions on alternative regulatory approaches
10. Draft superbly written materials in support of regulatory consultations and engagements
11. Organize and lead external engagements with regulators and standard setters
What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):
12. Bachelor’s (or non-US equivalent) + advanced degree in law, economics, finance, or equivalent preferred.
13. Firm understanding of blockchain-based technology, products, and services
14. 6+ years of financial services regulatory experience
15. A substantial portion of the experience will have been working on digital asset regulatory policy at a (1) regulator, (2) financial market participant, (3) trade association, or (4) standard setting organization, or (5) law/consulting firm representing one of these organizations,
16. Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams, including internal subject matter experts (analysts, attorneys, and economists), outside counsels, and consultants
17. Exceptionally strong writing and communication skills
Nice to haves:
18. Experience working as a regulatory economist or attorney advisor at a bank regulator, markets regulator, or standard setting organization
