Role Purpose:
The Asset Operations function within Bord Gáis Energy is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the electricity generation portfolio. The Operations Engineer, reporting to the Plant Manager, focuses on the day-to-day activities to ensure the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of the Whitegate Power Plant and the other assets in the BGE portfolio. Key to this is the engagement of the numerous stakeholders such as outsourced O&M Partners and other key external stakeholders and multiple internal functions within Bord Gáis Energy.
The role requires travel to oversee onsite activities and to meet stakeholders. The role requires flexibility to ensure ability to react to events that happen out of hours as the Asset is a 24/7, 365 days a year operation. It will be a technical & operational role to fully understand the asset and its risks and issues, it will own our approach to risk management and the root cause analysis processes to ensure robustness and that suitable mitigations are in place, and we are continually improving.
They will be providing governance on all our various reporting and metrics to ensure it is robustly challenged for accuracy and that trends and issues are identified and acted upon to ensure we achieve the performance targets of the Asset and identifying areas for improvement.
About the Role
1. Support the development of a Zero harm safety and environmental culture.
2. Manage the Plant Risk to ensure an accurate view is documented, communicated and mitigations implemented utilising information sourced from OEM’s, TIL, OMIL’s, PSIB’s, User groups and other industry forums.
3. Track all operational events to ensure all stakeholders are informed and drive continual improvement with detailed investigations being completed and remedial actions are implemented.
4. Track plant performance and accuracy of key data collection that feeds into stakeholders such as the Trading, EPA, CRU and SEAI. interrogate, track, calculate and report the KPI’s and highlight variances to ensure all obligations are being met.
5. Enhance the future viability of the asset by identifying and developing enhancements to improve performance or address obsolescence and risks from proposal to implementation.
6. Support governance with oversight of the Accountable Persons register and by conducting audits on site Operational & Maintenance activities to ensure compliance and drive continual improvement.
7. Chair technical & outage meetings and author and present technical, performance and outage reports.
8. Responsible for the Eirgrid interactions such as Secondary fuel, EDIL, Technical Offer Data, Outage planning and supporting accurate billing and settlements processes.
9. Understanding the ISEM and DS3 markets and their interactions with the Assets and monitor proposed changes and develop mitigations and opportunities.
10. Support the coordination of ad hoc site activities, projects and scheduled and unscheduled outages and testing on the plant.
Knowledge Skills & Experience
11. Third level qualification (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Process engineering) or relevant experience in the energy industry
12. Strong technical and Operational knowledge of Power Plant equipment and process
13. Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and teams.
14. Strong data analytical skills with experience on OSI PI Systems, Power BI and Excel.
15. Experience in managing root cause investigations and tracking actions to completion will be an advantage.
16. Ability to identify safety risks and stop work and implement mitigations.
17. Ability to advise the business on Power Station Operations and Grid systems and engage with and influence the decision making of senior management.
