The role of Assistant Law Librarian (Higher Executive Officer) in the Courts Service is to work with the Head Law Librarian and Legal Research and Library Services in delivering a world-class library service to the judiciary and staff of the Courts Service.
They will work closely with the senior management team of the Legal Research and Library Services in providing support in relation to legal research projects, knowledge management initiatives, compiling analytics, and training staff in library and third-party systems.
The role includes leading projects that develop and utilize legal resources (both hardcopy and digital) optimally to meet the evolving interests of the judiciary and Courts Service staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following list of duties is indicative (but not exhaustive) of the responsibilities and duties which the Assistant Law Librarian may be expected to perform:
* Collaborate with the Head Law Librarian and Head of Legal Research and Library Services to contribute to the development and management of a comprehensive, professional, and exceptional library service catering to the judiciary.
* Partner with the team to oversee, develop, implement, maintain, and support a diverse array of library technologies and applications, ensuring the delivery of innovative library and digital services.
* Assume responsibility for the management, induction, development, and growth of the Judges’ Library personnel.
* Provide application support, configuration, user management, and maintenance of library systems whilst working closely with Courts Service ICT to ensure the security of said library systems.
* Undertake a variety of administrative duties including cataloguing, organizing, inventory processing, routine maintenance, timely invoice processing, and assisting with library account management.
* Stay informed of emerging trends and technologies in library and information fields, delivering statistical analysis to the Head Law Librarian and Head of the Legal Research and Library Services.
* Establish and sustain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in similar roles across other governing bodies and private institutions both nationally and internationally.
* Lead in sharing knowledge and contribute to the Legal Research and Library Services’ current awareness and publication services.
* Attend and participate at conferences and meetings when required.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must, on or before 25 April 2025, be in possession of the following:
* A third level qualification QQI Level 8 in Library and Information Studies or equivalent qualification.
* Proven experience working with legal information resources and research methodologies, preferably in a legal professional setting.
* Competence in collaborating within a team to reach shared objectives and uphold standards.
* The ability to provide excellent customer service and proficiency with information and communication technology (ICT) in a library environment.
* Capability to work independently and take initiative.
* Strong written and oral communication skills, along with analytical and numeracy skills for data interpretation and evidence-based service development.
