Reporting directly to our client’s Core Network Engineering Manager, this role will focus on IP technologies in a Service Provider environment. The role will primarily involve build and core migrations but may also require occasional operational support activities. The successful candidate will manage and contribute to network architecture changes on VM Ireland’s Core IP Network.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do:
1. MPLS design, build and configuration changes
2. Physical interconnect and service migration planning and delivery
3. IP transit implementation and migrations
4. Liaison with IP architects to help design the future of the Virgin Media Core IP Network
5. Awareness and understanding of latest networking trends.
6. Develop first-of-type bespoke services within our lab environment and develop scripting and templates to allow Engineering teams to implement these services in bulk.
7. Carry out software/hardware upgrades & migrations on the core network within maintenance window, in adherence with Change Management procedures
8. Configure and support core network elements (P / PE / BNG / routers / aggregation switches)
9. Proven ability to solve complex problems under tight time constraints and an ability to prioritise.
10. Raise complex faults into vendor TAC teams as required and assist TAC teams with resolution (including complex fault replication in lab environment).
11. Define, follow, and ensure compliance with handover process from Service Delivery into Operations, for new services.
12. Ability to manage IPV4/IPV6 Address requirements.
Skills required
What You’ll Need:
1. Relevant third level qualification, ideally in telecoms – essential
2. 3+ years’ experience as a network engineer with a major Telco – essential
3. JNCIA/JNCIS/Other Juniper certs – essential (or equivalent hands-on experience with Juniper and JunOS)
4. Hands-on experience with Juniper MX series platforms – essential
5. CCNA R&S / CCNP R&S / CCNP SP / any Cisco Certs - desired
6. Experience with multi-vendor equipment and CLI (Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Nokia) – essential
7. Knowledge and hands on experience with protocols such as: HSRP, VRRP, OSPF, BGP, BGP-LU, VPLS, MPLS, L2 VPN, L3 VPN, PIM SSM, MVPN, QoS, IPv6, DS-Lite, SIP, RTP, IP transit, VPNs, Segment Routing, ISIS, RPKI, IPv6
8. Experience in scripting through Python or similar – highly desired
9. Excellent documentation skills - essential
10. Full clean driving licence - essential
