Practice Nurse - Position Description
Job Title: Practice Nurse
Reports to: GP Partner
Purpose: To provide clinical patient care, screening and immunisation services, patient education and assist in the management of chronic disease in the practice population.
In addition to your normal duties, you may be required to undertake other duties appropriate to your position and in line with your level of competency.
Clinical Tasks
1. Phlebotomy
2. Administration of injections & immunisations
3. Wound care & dressings
4. Cervical smears
5. Ear irrigation
6. Electrocardiograph (ECG)
7. Blood pressure monitoring
8. Application of 24hr blood pressure monitors
9. Health assessments
10. Chronic disease management activities
11. Triage & advice
12. Patient education & health promotion activities
13. Minor surgery assistance
14. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation/basic life support activities
15. Emergency care
16. Cryotherapy
17. Antenatal & postnatal care
18. STI screening
Administrative tasks
1. Liaise with other health professionals in the community and hospitals
2. Co-write and regularly review practice protocols
3. Conduct audits of patient care and practice services
4. Maintain surgical instruments
5. Maintain emergency equipment
6. Maintain treatment room stock & cold chain compliance
7. Manage practice recall systems and disease registers
8. Manage infection control
9. Maintain HIQA compliance

Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Registered General Nurse with An Bord Altranais
2. 2 years post-graduate experience
Desirable
1. Certificate, Diploma or Higher Diploma in Practice Nursing/BSc Nursing/MSc Nursing/Midwifery
2. Certificate/Diploma in Asthma/COPD/Diabetes/Heart Disease Care
3. Certificate in Cervical Screening
4. 2 years general practice experience
5. Previous experience with our practice management software Socrates.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: €21.37-€31.45 per hour
