About the Irish College of GPs
The Irish College of GPs is the professional body for general practice in Ireland. The College was founded in 1984 and is the Postgraduate Training Body (PGTB) for general practice accredited by the Irish Medical Council. Our primary aim is to serve the patient and the general practitioner by encouraging and maintaining the highest standards of general practice. We are responsible for postgraduate education, training, and standards in general practice and advise Government and the health services in relation to General Practice.
The College is a member of the World Organisation of National Colleges and Academies and Academic Associations of General Practice (WONCA). As a membership organisation, we are responsible for providing continuing medical education for GPs numbering over 4,000.
In May 2024, the College updated its name and brand identity from ICGP to Irish College of GPs and launched a new website. These changes reflect a new direction and tone for the representative organisation for GPs in Ireland.
Job Purpose
The College CME small group learning has been the most popular type of GP educational experience since its inception in the early 1980s. The meetings aim to develop and support excellent patient care in Irish General Practice through the delivery of continuous medical education, which promotes evidence-based medicine with shared decision-making, along with GP personal development.
The College is currently recruiting GP CME Small Group Tutors for the following faculty areas:
* Mayo West
Responsibilities:
* Facilitate a minimum of three CME groups.
* Notify all participating GPs of all small group meetings.
* Provide a syllabus for all small groups in consultation with participants and the National Director.
* Prepare meetings based on educational material promoting evidence-based medicine.
* Use assessment methods to evaluate the benefits of the programme.
* Maintain attendance records and submit monthly reports to the National Director.
* Provide participants with a CPD Code or certificate of attendance.
* Adhere to the ICGP Sponsorship policy.
* Attend the complete CME Tutor's workshop three times per year.
* Oversee and manage group leaders as per scheme policies.
* Participate in research to demonstrate learning outcomes of the CME network.
Person Specification:
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, expertise and competencies:
* Registration on the Register of Medical Specialists in the division of General Practice (Medical Council).
* Must be a member of the Irish College of General Practitioners, holding MICGP and in good standing.
* Practising general practitioner doing a minimum of five clinical sessions a week living and practising within or near the designated ICGP Faculty area.
* Must be enrolled on and fully compliant with the ICGP Professional Competence Scheme.
* Proven professional knowledge & experience.
* Organisational skills.
* Communications and interpersonal skills.
* Self-Management.
