Position Description
ESB Aghada Power Station in Cork consists of a 450 MW Alstom single shaft combined cycle gas turbine and 3 x 90 MW Alstom dual fuel open cycle gas turbines. The Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Technician at Aghada Power Station will be an integral part of the maintenance team with responsibility for the safe, reliable and efficient maintenance and troubleshooting of the generating plant and equipment to help ensure that Aghada operates to strict efficiency, availability, environmental and commercial standards.
The successful candidate will work with a wide variety of power, control, and measurement equipment from pneumatic, electronic, PLC and DCS systems right up to and including LV & MV electrical equipment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Perform planned and reactive maintenance activities in accordance with site policies and procedures.
2. Installation, troubleshooting, repair and commissioning of plant equipment and assets.
3. Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the CMMS.
4. Writing and implementing procedures and working instructions.
5. Preparation and review of task specific Method statements and Risk Assessments.
6. Be a mentor for Electrical & Instrumentation Apprentices.
7. Carry out authorized roles under the safety rules as required (Safe Systems of Work).
8. Liaise with and supervise vendors and contractors.
9. Any other duties as required which may be assigned to you, from time to time, by your line manager.
The successful candidate will be required on occasions to have flexible working hours including weekend and night working and be available for callouts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
1. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and required to work as part of a close team in a Generating Station environment, interacting effectively with other station staff and contractors as necessary.
2. Detailed knowledge of Instrumentation, Electrical and Control systems in an industrial environment.
3. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and P&IDs.
4. Strong safety culture and ability to work in a team environment.
5. Full B driving licence.
6. Good IT skills. Applicants must be proficient in the use of computer systems.
7. Experience with instrumentation calibration and electrical test equipment.
8. 2-5 years Thermal, Hydro, or renewable generation plant maintenance or equivalent.
9. Experience in equipment commissioning activities.
10. Experience and Certification in the use of MEWP.
11. Knowledge of LOTO and permitting systems.
12. Experience in Maintenance, Environmental and Safety Management systems.
13. Plant technical services experience or equivalent.
14. Staff and / or Contractor supervision experience or equivalent.
Qualifications
An Electrical Instrumentation craft qualification or equivalent.

A shift bonus will also be added on top of base salary when working on shift.
