RTÉ’s New Direction strategy positions the organisation to champion culture in Ireland, captivate audiences with trusted and challenging content, and celebrate Ireland's rich diversity.
RTÉ’s Video content strategy focuses on growing consumption on our streaming platforms while sustaining engagement with our linear services. Comedy content has been identified as a key driver of this strategy.
RTÉ is therefore seeking to appoint a Commissioning Editor with responsibility for Comedy. Reporting to the Director of Video, this senior editorial position will drive the development and delivery of RTÉ’s Comedy slate.
The Commissioning Editor will work with partners in the Irish creative sector to shape an ambitious and distinctive range of comedy formats, developing new talent as well as working with established writers and performers.
About the role:
* Managing the successful delivery of commissioned comedy across RTÉ’s linear and on demand services.
* Creating a development pipeline to support the expansion of comedy hours envisaged in the New Direction strategy.
* Identifying and nurturing great ideas and exceptional talent across the Irish creative sector.
* Meeting audience targets and other KPIs.
* Engaging with industry stakeholders, including international partners, to deliver RTÉ’s content strategy in this genre.
* As a member of the Video Leadership Team, collaborating with and supporting colleagues across our genres and services.
* Working collaboratively with the Head of Diversity and Inclusion to deliver on RTÉ’s diversity and inclusion goals and support RTÉ’s efforts to serve diverse audiences.
About you:
* The successful candidate will have significant senior editorial leadership experience in this genre, a deep understanding of audience needs and global content trends alongside familiarity with a range of funding models.
* You should demonstrate an appetite for creative risk as well as excellent editorial judgement.
* You will have excellent organisation and planning skills, be adept at managing budgets, and have a hands-on approach to solving problems and delivering change.
* You will have first class skills in building relationships with key creative talent and other stakeholders.
* You will have a positive and collaborative leadership style and a track record of supporting others to meet the high standards and creative ambition that you set.
* You will demonstrate commitment to promoting and delivering diversity and inclusion across all aspects of the role.
* You will have experience of overseeing significant budgets and understanding key commercial and financial drivers for RTÉ.
RTÉ’s New Direction strategy aims to diversify production and support the development of the sector across Ireland, and in line with this the post can be based in our Dublin or Cork premises, depending on candidate preference.
