Join our Data Solutions Platform Engineering team in this exciting time as we implement Bank of Ireland's new cloud-based data platform.
As Senior Platform Engineer, you will help design, implement and manage Infrastructure As Code (IAC) for our Data pipeline eco-system on our cloud environment. You will work with our agile delivery teams to engineer high quality solutions for all our data platforms.
We work in a very collaborative environment with a learning culture, and you will use your experience to help guide future development across the team, the tools we use, help drive automation and introduce new and exciting engineering patterns and frameworks!
In this Role, you will
1. Design, Develop and Manage our Infra As Code eco-system underpinning our cloud-based data platform
2. Enable our CI/CD pipelines to build out complex data flows and processes
3. Help us support the monitoring and telemetry for the performance of our data pipelines and APIs, identify issues, and implement solutions
4. Implement and manage security tools and best practices to ensure a secure environment in compliance with security policies
5. Advocate and drive Automation, and drive maintain metrics adoption
6. Continuously improve the system architecture to ensure it supports the growth and technical advancements of the bank
7. Keep up to date with advancements and best practices of Data and Cloud Platforms and related technologies
8. Ensure engineering teams are following Platform engineering best practices and standards while driving improvements and efficiencies
9. Provide guidance and mentoring to broader team on best practices and standards
What Will Make You Stand Out
We are seeking a leader with enthusiasm and a growth mentality who prioritises collaboration with others. You have a proactive approach to achieve the necessary outcome while improving processes, team knowledge and tooling.
You have a proven track record as Platform Engineer managing Infra As Code for cloud-based data platforms with 5+ years working in an agile team in a technical leadership capacity. You have deep technical knowledge in Cloud Technologies and Architecture, with a preference in AWS.
Key Technical Skills Required:
1. Experience with administration and configuration of Cloudera CDP or similar Data platforms in the cloud e.g. Databricks, Snowflake.
2. Solid experience in working with a Kafka ecosystem, including the administration and configuration of the following products - (Kafka Brokers, Connect, Zookeeper) and Apache Nifi.
3. Proficiency in administering Cloudera clusters, ensuring high availability and performance optimization.
4. Extensive knowledge of Big Data technologies including Kafka, Hive, Spark, HBase, and PySpark.
5. Good experience with security concepts and tools, including identity and access management, encryption, and security groups.
6. AWS Administration experience - S3, EC2, EKS, ELK, IAM, VPC, EBS & KMS.
7. Proficiency in any scripting language such as Python.
Experience with any of the following will help you to stand out, but is not essential;
1. Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools like Terraform/OpenTofu or equivalent, e.g. ansible.
2. DevOps tools & technologies such as Jenkins, GIT, Bitbucket, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Docker and Kubernetes.
3. Configuration and monitoring and logging tools like Splunk, Grafana, ELK stack, or CloudWatch.

Our growing and exciting Data Solutions Engineering team provides the engineering services for the Group's Operational Data store, Enterprise Data Warehouse and Enterprise Data Lake. We sit within the Group Data & Analytics Office which is the core team for all things data in the bank.
We deliver the data elements to support Digital, Customer, Regulatory and other change initiatives that drive the Group's transformation agenda.
