The Role:
The Asset Operations function forms the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards as well as managing the majority of operational expenditure. The Asset Operations function has responsibility for operational and maintenance strategy, policies, planning and standard operating procedures for Water and Wastewater operations both nationally and regionally, ensuring that value for money and customer service is delivered.
The Regional Operations team is responsible for the regional delivery of water and wastewater operational services through the operation, inspection, maintenance & repair of the treatment and network assets.
The senior craftworker will have a remit over a geographical area and is responsible for delivering planned and reactive maintenance activities. Uisce Éireann is seeking to recruit senior craftworkers across various disciplines including Instrumentation, Control & Automation/ Mechanical & Electrical/Plumbing – see Main Duties and Responsibilities section.
Out of hours working will be required and appropriate overtime and standby rates will apply.
We are currently recruiting for craft positions across Limerick. A panel will be put in place for vacancies that arise in the next 12 months.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Water/Wastewater Treatment Maintenance Senior Operative (Instrumentation, Control & Automation)
Support water & wastewater treatment maintenance services to the water asset base including the network assets using instrumentation, controls and automation craft skills.
Provide maintenance support for Programmable Logic Control (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Intelligent MCC Control systems and Human Machine Interface controls.
Maintain, repair and calibrate field instrumentation and associated equipment used in water/wastewater distribution e.g. level sensors, flow meters (including distribution input (DI) and district meter area (DMA) meters), network based chemical dosing and monitoring equipment and telemetry equipment such as monitor to signal transmitters, pulse units and data loggers.
Responsible for data capture and reporting on existing or replacement assets to highlight maintenance, data quality and calibration issues using the technology systems provided.
Adjust alarm levels if required in line with standard operating procedures.
Maintain and repair equipment such as communications systems and controllers used in the system including the provision of control solutions for the treatment process and network system.
Raise work order requests for resolution if follow on work is required, specifying details for new or replacement assets when necessary. Conduct daily indicative operational checks and analysis as required and reporting results through appropriate systems.
Ensure the personal safety of self and others by undertaking Risk Assessments and the subsequent selection of appropriate equipment and safe working practices. Adhere to health and safety, systems and procedures.
Water/Wastewater Treatment Maintenance Senior Operative (Mechanical & Electrical)
Support water & wastewater treatment maintenance services using electrical and/or mechanical craft skills.
Undertake a range of mechanical tasks such as cleaning, servicing, inspecting and testing replacement of worn parts or carrying out replacement of parts. This may include the routine maintenance or removal of pumps, pump component replacements, engines, valves, gearboxes, specialist electrical interface hydraulics and pneumatics, fitting, pipe disconnections, and mechanical devices (such as bearing’s couplings, brakes and safety guards). May be required to disconnect electrical power to carry out maintenance on mechanical equipment and reconnect or replace, where qualified to do so.
Undertake a range of electrical tasks, which may include fault finding and diagnosis, overload setting, maintenance to motors, motor starters, generators, lighting, variable speed drives, instrumentation and the calibration of process equipment, resetting of automation equipment, and variable speed drive parameter setting.
Ensure the personal safety of self and others by undertaking Risk Assessments and the subsequent selection of appropriate equipment and safe working practices. Adhere to health and safety, systems and procedures.
Support mechanical and/or electrical maintenance on the water network assets (e.g. pumping stations) and secondary treatment plants, carrying out all work as per the Uisce Éireann H&S requirements.
Undertake administrative tasks, including the completion of work orders, H&S records, risk-based maintenance management and inventory management using the technology systems provided.
Promptly record and accurately report relevant information in relation to data on existing or replacement assets using the technology systems provided.
May be required to work on Medium and High Voltage systems in certain plants
Water/WastewaterTreatment Maintenance Senior Operative (Plumber):
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of plumbing equipment. This comprises of water, wastewater and surface water infrastructure i.e. treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, disinfection stations, metering installation and other ancillary water infrastructure as may be assigned from time to time.
Carry out of inspection, adjustment, disassembling and reassembling, repair, recording and monitoring the working of plumbing equipment for planned and reactive maintenance. This will involve the use of handheld tablet computers and updating of the Asset Database.
Install, maintain and repair water services infrastructure, including treatment plants, service pipes, connections and general water network infrastructure.
Installation of new service connections and associated fittings;
Installation, maintenance and repair of meters;
Assisting leak detection crews and other staff in relation to water conservation;
Carry out works on pressure and gravity systems
Carry out watermain repairs
Assist in training other team members and plant operatives.
Maintain adequate plumbing spares for all the plants and network.
Reading and recording of technical data in written and diagrammatic format.
All roles:
Record data as required on handheld devices provided
Provide oversight on relevant works involving 3rd party contracts/others as required
Mentor team members as required
Perform duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, including;
Adhere to Construction Regulations including undertaking of duties assigned under the Regulations, as per Uisce Éireann policy
Identify hazards and conduct site risk assessments in advance of work activities
Apply safe work procedures and standard operating procedures
Undertake all assigned health and safety training, including Safe Pass and, where relevant, Certified Construction Skills
Use appropriate safety equipment and tools, including Personal Protective Equipment
Where necessary, seek guidance from Team Lead on the carrying out of site risk assessments
Maintain site welfare facilities
Control and record access to sites by other Uisce Éireann personnel and by external visitors and service providers
Co-operate at site level with other Uisce Éireann personnel and with other service providers
Record all site matters, including accidents, incidents and near misses
Complete any corrective actions for Operational area of responsibility
Provide support in updating the Construction Stage Safety & Health Plan
Provide relevant information for the Safety File
Update and Maintain the Safety File locally and send updates to Uisce Éireann’s ECM system.
Carry out any other duties deemed necessary and / or required which your line manager may reasonably request
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate or equivalent in one of the below disciples –
Craft of Electrical Instrumentation
Craft of Instrumentation
Craft of Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting
Craft of Plumber
Craft of Electrical
Craft of Construction Plant Fitting
Craft of Heavy Vehicle Mechanics
2 years relevant work experience
Experience of coaching and developing team members
Experience and understanding of working within a strong health & safety culture
A good general understanding of the working of pumps, motors, munchers, dosing pumps, air blowers, compressors, sludge, presses, aerators, welding skills and should be familiar with all waterworks fittings, including valves, pipes etc. is preferable
Knowledge of Potable Water Network systems fittings an advantage
Experience of working with automated control systems an advantage
Experience of working with control systems and the servicing and maintenance of instrumentation installed on plants to automatically monitor and control processes
Full, clean and valid Irish category B driving licence is minimum requirement.
Experience of using IT systems and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office e.g. Word & Excel preferable
Strong problem-solving skills and drive to resolve issues promptly using initiative
Strong literacy skills
Experience working within Water Industry and /or other Utilities preferred
With full training and risk assessment, the role holder must have the ability to work in environments that may attract vermin, be noisy and require use of ear defence and enter confined spaces using specialist equipment such as harnesses and beathing apparatus where trained to do so”.
