Role Purpose
Our An Post Commerce business is rapidly expanding the e Commerce and mail marketing businesses, growing our share of the competitive parcels sector very significantly since 2018 and becoming the leading parcel delivery carrier for major retailers.
The business plays a fundamental role in Irish economic life as the backbone of e Commerce, making sure that communities across Ireland have the same access to goods as in major world cities.
Transport is essential for the delivery of this volume.
An Post has one of the largest managed fleets in Ireland.
Job Description
This finance role will play a significant part in managing and ensuring best use of our transport assets.
Instructions
We are looking for a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) and have at least 5 years work experience in Performance or Financial Management and Accounting.
You will have excellent Excel skills and a detailed knowledge of An Posts Financial & Operational reporting systems, including APBI & IFS, (or the capability to quickly develop this expertise).
Responsibilities
* Developing Budgets: Prepare and manage annual pay and non-pay budgets for transportation costs, ensuring they align with overall business goals and targets.
* Prepare annual Capital budgets in line with central instructions.
* Reporting and Tracking KPIs: Prepare monthly non pay and pay financial reports for senior management, including key metrics like cost per mile, cost per vehicle, operational costs, leasing costs etc.
* Identify risks and implement controls to mitigate.
* Utilise data analytics to interrogate and report on KPIs.
* Cost Forecasting: Predict and track transportation costs, including fuel, maintenance, and personnel, to ensure financial planning accuracy.
* Prepare monthly/quarterly forecasts and report on variances from budget/Prior year.
* Invoice and Payment Managementincluding Vendor Payments Invoice Reconciliation PO Creation.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all transportation activities comply with financial and legal regulations, including tax laws and industry standards.
* Ensure IFRS16 rules are complied with and vehicles are properly shown on P&L accounts.
* Ensure Corporate Governance requirements and compliance within An Post are met.
* Insurance and Risk Management: Ensure appropriate insurance coverage for transportation assets are in place and manage any related risks.
* Capital Expenditure Planning: Manage investments in fleet expansion, including vehicle acquisition and lease agreements.
* Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve financial efficiency within the transportation department, such as optimising routes or adopting technology and IT solutions.
* Strategic Decision-Making: Collaborate with senior management to formulate long-term financial strategies for transportation, considering factors such as market trends, regulatory changes, and economic conditions.
* Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other departments (e.g., operations, procurement, and other finance departments) to ensure smooth financial operations.
* External Communication: Liaise with external vendors, contractors, and service providers to negotiate terms and manage financial relationships.
* Support: Provide support to Head of Finance, Customs and Transport, Transport Operational Management and wider finance senior management team, in relation to ad-hoc requests for information and advice on how to best generate information from systems, circulating information and providing training related to new processes and procedures.
* Project Work: Undertake project work as Finance Lead or as Project Manager.
* Assistance: Provide cover for and assistance to colleagues within the APC Finance team as required.
* Software Implementation and IT Development: Oversee the use of transportation management systems (TMS) and other financial tools and support and contribute to new IT systems to streamline operations and ensure accurate financial tracking.
