Research Scientist - Maternity Cover Based in Cork, Ireland Job Purpose The Research Scientist in Probiotics and enzymes is responsible for advancing scientific knowledge and developing innovative solutions in these fields.
This role involves conducting research to understand the mechanisms and applications of probiotics and enzymes with the goal of improving health and industrial processes.
The scientist will design and execute experiments, analyze data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into practical applications.
Key responsibilities include ensuring the accuracy and reproducibility of results, maintaining compliance with safety standards, and effectively communicating research outcomes through reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
Main Responsibilities Work within the company's Safety and Health guidelines.
Prepares and updates standard operating procedures and health & safety protocols.Lab Operations: Oversee the daily operation of the lab, manage deliveries, organise stocks, and process biological and chemical waste in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.Design and Conduct Experiments: Plan, execute, and analyse experiments to investigate the properties and applications of probiotics and enzymes.Data Analysis: Interpret experimental data, perform statistical analyses, and draw meaningful conclusions to advance research projects.Protocol Development: Develop, validate, and implement new methods and protocols for research and product development.Technical Proficiency: Maintain and operate laboratory equipment, ensuring accurate and precise results.Documentation and Reporting: Record experimental procedures and results, and prepare detailed reports, presentations, and manuscripts for internal and external stakeholders.Innovation and Improvement: Contribute ideas and concepts to initiate or advance research projects and improve existing products.Training and Mentorship: Train and mentor research interns and junior scientists in laboratory techniques and research methodologies.Skills & Abilities Experienced with Microsoft programmes (including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in working with probiotics and enzymes, as well as proficiency in utilising a wide range of laboratory techniques and equipment including cell culture.Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyse data, interpret results, and draw meaningful conclusions to advance research projects.Attention to Detail: Precision and accuracy in conducting experiments and recording data to ensure reproducibility and reliability of results.Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during experiments and research projects.Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills for preparing reports, presentations, manuscripts and collaborating with cross-functional teams.Innovation: Creativity and initiative to develop new methods, protocols, and innovative solutions for research and product development.Mentorship: Capability to train and mentor research interns and junior scientists in laboratory techniques and research methodologies.Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to new challenges, technologies, and evolving research priorities.Education & Experience PhD in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science or related field is preferred.Master's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Food Science or related field with 2-3 years' experience is essential.
