The role
SSE Thermal are recruiting for an experienced Lead Consents Manager to lead consenting and permitting activities for a range of cutting-edge low carbon thermal energy projects. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of sustainable energy solutions, from the development phase all the way through to commissioning.
As the Lead Consents Manager, you will take the lead in ensuring that projects comply with environmental and regulatory standards, guiding complex projects towards successful delivery. You will play a crucial role in driving strategies, identifying risks, and managing external and internal stakeholders throughout the consenting process.
You will
1. Design, implement, and lead consenting strategies for a variety of low carbon energy projects, including new builds and retrofits of thermal power generation infrastructure.
2. Collaborate with internal teams (including project, land, legal, engineering, and procurement) to ensure smooth, timely consenting and permitting.
3. Identify, instruct, and manage external consents resources, coordinating activities to meet project deadlines.
4. Manage and mitigate consenting and permitting risks, including developing strategies for optioneering and effective escalation of issues.
5. Ensure successful acquisition of consents, permits, and licences required across a wide range of areas, including planning, environmental, abstraction, marine, and safety permits.
You have
1. Significant experience and expertise in the environmental, planning, and consenting requirements for large capital projects, including Environmental Permitting, Town and Country Planning, Development Consent Orders, Water Abstraction Licensing, and Section 36 Consent.
2. Membership with a recognized professional body (such as the Institute of Environment Management and Assessment, Royal Town Planning Institute, or Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors).
3. An understanding of the commercial drivers of major infrastructure projects and a working knowledge of relevant Safety, Health, and Environmental legislation.
4. Proven experience in leading and managing project teams, particularly in environments with high uncertainty and rapid change.
5. Exceptional ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse groups, including local communities, local authorities, and statutory consultees.
