As our team grows, the AWS Infrastructure DNS team is seeking enthusiastic and talented Software Development Manager to lead a team that builds and operates the large-scale DNS systems used to drive the Amazon fleet.
You will own systems that are critical to the platforms that Amazon's global retail, AWS and Kindle businesses run upon -- the DNS services in Amazon's data centers and integration of Amazon's systems with Amazon Route 53 to manage public DNS.

Building, motivating and mentoring a world-class systems & software engineering team is the most important part of this role.
You should have a proven track record in recruiting and retaining top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks.
You have strong Agile and project delivery experience.
This will include helping innovate and invent new value-add services layered on top of our existing services.
You will need excellent technical project management skills to deliver product roadmap items as well as other cross-team projects.
You have a strong engineering background with an understanding of OO Design and DNS Technologies, network and OS expertise is a plus.
Ideally, you have past experience working as a senior software development engineer.
You enjoy keeping your technical skills reasonably current, to the point that you can still contribute to architecture discussions and code reviews.
You regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.
You also have strong operational experience and have a track record operating highly available fault tolerant systems.
You know how to run a tight, lean, efficient operation.
You will want to measure everything and be very data driven using metrics, monitoring and alarming to measure and improve the operational processes and performance of your team.
You thrive operating in a fast moving, dynamic environment.

Minimum RequirementsKnowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.Experience in engineering team management.Experience in engineering.Experience in leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.Experience partnering with product and program management teams.Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.
