Mechanical Shift Lead Location: Ballina, Mayo Duration: Permanent Overview of the Role: Developing a high performing team, ensuring that the requisite competencies and individuals are developed and performance is managed effectively. The shift lead has an overall responsibility for all utility equipment & operations on site in Ballina during their scheduled shift and the supervision of dayshift personnel. The Shift Lead shall be responsible to ensure that all operations are conducted in a safe and professional manner. As a member of the Veolia Team the Shift lead should be actively involved and aware of all Fuel & Energy Usage, and the processes adapted to record and report to the client. Also, the Shift Lead should be actively involved in the submission of energy conservation - improvement projects. The Shift Lead has a requirement to contribute to the Set up and implementation of maintenance plans for all related utility equipment, highlighting adverse trends, propose and implement corrective actions. Day to Day of the Role: Key responsibilities include making sure Shift and Day Team Members complete all assigned duties safely and in a timely manner The Shift Lead will lead the Veolia Operations meeting with a review of the Plant status and plans for the day ensuring a smooth seamless handover at the end of each shift with all relevant documentation completed. Be prepared for the meeting by: Meeting and overlapping with the cross shift, documenting the highlights and opportunities. Discuss any Plant safety related issues with your relief Have knowledge of the critical issues across the Plant, including safety, environmental, process Raise, maintain & review Permits for Site Team & Sub-Contractors Develop a plan for the shift based on the information collected. Lead the meeting and discussions by: Being organized, prepared and conduct the meeting in a professional and timely manner. Constructively participating to help balance the priorities for the shift. Identify and agree on the items requiring updates prior to the end of the shift, and how the updates will occur and who is accountable. Help identify issues and opportunities for improvement, on a shift to shift basis, and work on them by getting commitment from personnel. Do follow-up and understand the issues and status through the shift. Review the white boards at the Veolia Operations meeting and ensure it is kept current. Comprehensive Communication with Site Manager. Nominated as "Person In charge" of Operation for all utility equipment. Attend & represent Veolia at the Facilities operations meeting. Deputise for the Site Manager as and when required. Assignment and output of operations technicians. Ensures completion of Event Report Forms and Incident reports. Review of critical utility parameter trends and presentation of any abnormalities to Veolia Site Manager. Veolia starting point for internal and client escalation processes. Compile all preliminary incident investigations related to shift operation Ensure Continuous Improvements highlighted and documented through the Good Idea procedure. Supervision of weekend shift assignments including Sub Contractors and Permits Ensure the completion of routine PPM schedules for their shift. Execution of Rounds and Readings. Ensure coverage and execute Callout Rota Coordinate routine and non-routine inspection and maintenance tasks independently and with shift maintenance crew. Utilise and contribute to the ongoing development and fine tuning of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures. Maintain spares inventory for operating & maintenance of Utilities equipment. Managing the shift team to optimize the level of service to the client and managing the team response to condition monitoring data / plant alarms, and the completion of tests, records, checks and inspections as required. Focus on understanding issues and opportunities that allow us to maximize operational output for the long term. Keep the Site Manager informed of significant equipment failures that cause a significant reduction in capacity to deliver Utilities. Required Skills for the Role: Ensuring HSE targets are achieved and to ensure compliance with the site Health, Safety and Environmental management systems and practices. Ensure excellent housekeeping and adherence to the client and Veolia safety procedures and policies. Foster the development of safety cantered work culture among your team. Give personnel direction in times of potentially unsafe operation. Review Risk Assessments as required considering changes in operation, environment and legislation. Stay current in the operating conditions of the Plant: Interpret SOP's. Be aware and review plant maintenance procedures. Ability to work in a team atmosphere, with the ability to recognize and facilitate conflicts through to resolution.
