Job Description
A Library Assistant I position is being established at the South East Technological University. The role involves contributing to the library's mission by providing quality information resources, services, and facilities to the university community.
The successful candidate will assist in delivering library services proactively, efficiently, and cost-effectively. They may be assigned to various activities within the university library, including front-facing tasks and interacting with library users.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, initiative, and a keen interest in how library services operate within a higher education context.
Key Responsibilities:
* Providing exceptional customer care and addressing queries from library users.
* Assisting with day-to-day circulation desk operations.
* Supporting library staff with information queries via various channels.
* Maintaining library stock and collections through shelving and regular maintenance.
* Collaborating on collection management, including repairs, binding, and donations.
* Promoting library work through social media and the library website.
* Delivering library induction, tours, and programs to the institute community as required.
* Implementing library rules, policies, and regulations to ensure efficient resource use.
* Participating in training and continuous professional development as needed.
* Contributing to out-of-term and summer projects as assigned.
All library posts require a good understanding of ICT, and the successful candidate will be expected to adapt to new technologies. Training will be provided as necessary, including extensive use of the Library Management System and other library systems.
