Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Manager Biodiversity and Natural Resources, the Biodiversity and Sustainability Specialist will support the implementation of CRH’s group-wide strategic approach to biodiversity and operational water, utilising external tools to analyse CRH’s nature risks and opportunities, and undertaking biodiversity net impact assessments.
The team plays a central role in supporting senior management and works alongside other sustainability-related group functions.
Key objectives include guiding operating companies in developing and implementing biodiversity management plans and water stewardship plans.
This role will be based in Ireland or the United Kingdom.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
1. Support the development and rollout of CRH’s strategic approaches on nature-related topics
2. Regularly analyse CRH’s footprint using various risk assessment tools
3. Provide guidance to operating companies on biodiversity and water management plans
4. Undertake nature-related net impact assessments
5. Contribute to the Sustainable Business team in developing content for sustainability reporting
6. Build strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
7. Prepare presentations and communication materials for internal and external stakeholders
Key Skills and Experience
1. 2-3 years’ working experience in a commercial or corporate role
2. Strong academic credentials in ecology or sustainability/environmental management
3. High proficiency in Office365, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
4. Strong knowledge of ecology and/or water management, nature policies, and regulations
5. Excellent research and analytical skills
6. Strong writing, design, and communications skills
7. Energetic, driven, and a team player with first-rate inter-personal skills
8. Self-motivated with a high degree of initiative
9. Keen interest in sustainability trends is advantageous
10. Ability to multi-task and deliver within tight deadlines
