Senior Occupational Therapist - Specific Purpose (Mat Leave) - 32 Hrs/Wk- WCCDNT
We are looking for Senior Occupational Therapists for our West Cork Children's Disability Network Team (WCCDNT) in our West Cork Locations.

Overall Purpose of Position
To provide quality occupational therapy services for children who have complex needs. This post will involve assessment, intervention, programme planning and implementation, discharge and onward referrals. Service provision may include directive, monitoring and consultative approaches.
Main Responsibilities
Clinical
* Planning and organising individual and group caseloads, to include assessments, interventions and diagnosis for children (0 – 18 years) with a range of disabilities including physical, sensory and learning disabilities and developmental delay.
* Demonstrates sufficient clinical skills in assessment, intervention and diagnostics to meet the specific needs of children with a range of disabilities / developmental delay.
* Is adequately aware of policy, legislative and professional requirements to ensure appropriate standards in their area of responsibility.
* To deliver a quality service to children and families.
* To provide therapeutic input and intervention for children who are enrolled in the service.
* To be responsible for service provision to children on your own caseload.
* To be responsible for waiting lists and liaising with referrers and/or families regarding these.
* To be responsible for keeping abreast of developments in the assessment and interventions for children with complex needs e.g. ASD, DCD, CP, Intellectual disabilities etc.
* To undertake and participate in audits as required.
* To be responsible for fieldwork education of OT students.
* To ensure positive representation of OT service at all times.
* To undertake the development of new systems and protocol for service delivery and effective time management.
* To impart skills to other staff via training.
* To provide an occupational therapy service that meets the individual needs of each person.
* To advise parents, teachers and staff in the safe use of equipment, aids, seating etc.
* To work as part of an inter-disciplinary team and participate in staff meetings and case conferences.
* To assist in the organisation of occupational therapy clinics with other staff.
* To attend, on occasion, meetings outside working hours.
* To keep adequate up-to-date records.
Team Working:
* Attending and actively contributing to relevant clinical, professional and service meetings.
* Participating as a full member of the interdisciplinary service team.
* Facilitating staff development by providing support such as clinical supervision, mentoring, coaching and formal development planning.
* Understanding and respecting the complexity of working in a team and team dynamics.
* Understanding and facilitating interdisciplinary team working.
* Working in collaboration with the other members of the team in the planning and delivery of services for children, in particular in the development of family and person centred planning.
* Supporting and contributing to research initiatives as required.
Management
* Taking responsibility for the line management and clinical supervision of basic grade therapists, volunteers/students within the team/service as required.
* Apply and develop caseload management procedures including prioritization.
* To contribute in a positive and energetic manner to the overall development of WCCDNT and the services it provides.
* Participation in planning groups and committees related to the ongoing development of the service.
* Active involvement in the compilation, delivery and evaluation of training within the organisation.
* Management of resources, currently available and application for resources where there is a need.
* Be responsible for personal time management and management of caseload.
* Attend and participate in in-service meetings.
* Actively engage in professional and personal development initiatives.
* Participate effectively in the performance management system that operates within the organisation.
* To maintain the highest level of client confidentiality at all times.
* Taking initiatives to move the service forward and show willingness to try out new ideas that add service delivery value.
* Ensuring strict compliance with health and safety standards and adheres to operational guidelines ensuring equipment is checked and working correctly in accordance with safety standards.
* Ensuring that professional standards are adhered to for the occupational therapy service provided.
Person Spec
Essential Qualifications and skills
* B.Sc. degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent CORU registered Occupational Therapy qualification.
* Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
* Must be eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland.
* Full Clean Driving licence and use of own car.
* Should have at least 3 years post graduate experience.
* Have experience and knowledge across a range of disabilities seen within PDS teams – Autism, Intellectual and physical disabilities.
* Have excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
* Show professionalism at all times.
* Be capable of working individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Be enthusiastic, self-motivated and keen to develop professional skills.
* Take responsibility for planning and managing an individual workload and demonstrate initiative in planning for the OT department.
* Ability to provide comprehensive intervention plans to meet the needs of children with physical, intellectual and/or sensory disabilities.
* Ability to assess the needs of children with physical and sensory disabilities.
* He/she will be able to provide supervision to basic grade staff.
Desirable Qualifications and skills
* Experience working with children or adults with disabilities and their families. Experience of interdisciplinary team working.
* Relevant post graduate training specific to child disability services.
* Experience in conducting assessment of needs.
* Postgraduate Training in Sensory Integration.
* Additional training in seating and postural management.
* Broad knowledge of the Progressing Disability Services for children and young people programme.
* Experience of the wider health system and knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy in disability services.
* Experience of working independently.
* Have experience working in the field of paediatrics.
* Have experience of working within a community setting with children.
* Knowledge of postural management and specialist seating.
* Experience in providing educational workshops to parents/professionals.
* Experience in managing complex caseloads.
