Overview
Perform simple repair work to clean, check, inspect, repair, maintain and install station equipment and apparatus.
Responsibilities
GENERAL DUTIES
The normal duties may include but are not limited to:
1. Employee will be knowledgeable of and follow all safety rules, procedures and practices.
2. Employee acting in conjunction with supervision or individually as directed by supervision must be willing to direct the training of other employees in the correct operating procedures necessary to fully satisfy the classification duties of Instrument & Electrical Technician Helper or other duties with which the employee is familiar.
3. Employee will, when directed by supervision, report to assigned locations for the purpose of receiving training and will actively participate in the training activities.
4. Employee will carry out assignments in training for and/or performing fire fighting and first aid.
5. Employee will exhibit an adequate competency level pertaining to activities delineated in the Duties and Qualifications sections of this job classification.
6. Employee will, during the normal performance of his duties, watch for and promptly report to supervision any damaged or defective equipment or conditions which may cause damage or injury.
7. Employee will perform duties of lower or higher classifications that are incidental to the job and are within his/her capabilities including those needed for the purpose of training in the requirements of the higher classifications.
8. Employee will keep all equipment, tools, materials and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
9. Employee will report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
10. Employee will perform work in a responsible and cooperative manner to facilitate a positive working environment.
11. Employee will compile information and generate reports, forms and documents as required.
12. Employee will represent the Company to the community with attention to the highest standard of conduct, appearance and attitude.
13. Employee will be loyal to the Company and support its policies, procedures and objectives.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Duties which may include but are not limited to:
1. Employee will perform simple work to check, inspect, repair, maintain and install station equipment and apparatus.
2. Employee will assist employees of higher classification and supply them with the necessary tools, equipment and material; and upon completion of the job assist in gathering up and returning all such tools, equipment, and surplus material in a clean and serviceable condition.
3. Employee will clean equipment undergoing repairs, handle and move material supplies and equipment in connection with the work and the work area. Employee will maintain area in a clean and safe condition.
4. Employee will perform simple dismantling and assembly work, bolt and unbolt, connect and disconnect.
5. Employee will learn the proper use of: handtools, power tools, meters, test equipment, hoists, drill presses, grinders, and other tools and equipment pertaining to the work. Employee will operate these tools and equipment as directed.
6. Employee will prepare work surfaces and areas, remove and install insulation, guards and housings on equipment.
7. Employee will set up portable extension lights and blowers as directed.
8. Employee will assist in electrical and instrument repair, calibration and troubleshooting.
9. Employee will assist in lubricating station equipment.
10. Employee will operate vehicles for transporting men, tools materials and equipment as assigned.
11. Employee will assist in the erection and removal of scaffolding and rigging.
12. Employee will assist, as directed, employees of any classification in carrying through work assignments.
Qualifications
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. Employee must meet all general qualifications of employment.
2. Employee must be able to speak, understand, read and write English, and be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
3. Employee must have education or knowledge equivalent to that normally represented by satisfactory completion of the requirements of a high school diploma, or equivalent.
4. Employee must be able to learn to use the tools and equipment required in the work.
5. Employee must be willing to become familiar with the Company Safety Rules and willingly comply with such rules.
6. Employee must have a valid state driver's license and pass the Transportation Department's driver's test for operating Company vehicles.
7. Employee must be willing to work inside and outside under varying weather conditions.
8. Employee must be willing to report as directed to any facility for any shift where needed.
9. Employee must be in good health and be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, which include work at heights and heavy manual labor.
10. Employee must possess the willingness and ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to advance to higher classifications.
11. Employee must be willing and able to communicate through both verbal and written reports.
12. Employee must be able to learn to make and read simple drawings and sketches.
13. Employee must be willing to carry through work assignments, and must be able to obtain cooperation and satisfactory work from others assigned to work with him/her.
14. Employee must successfully complete such entry level testing programs as are promulgated by Louisville Gas and Electric to measure job responsive aptitude, ability to retain knowledge and problem solving skills.
15. Employee must be willing to satisfy all attendance criteria adopted by the Company pertaining to this classification.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. Employee must be able to learn equipment clearance procedures and rules, safety, practices, maintenance instructions and procedures applicable to the work.
2. Employee must have a two-year college degree or equivalent of related experience and formal education as determined through the consultation of H.R. and the appropriate institution.
WORK CONDITIONS
Industrial work environment including significant outdoor work with exposure to the elements i.e., heat, cold, wet, etc. Work may include ladders, platforms, and uneven work surfaces. Dust and debris associated with handling of fuels and fuel by-products. Respirator use required.
PHYSICAL EFFORTS
Must be able to lift 70 lbs. from the ground to the height of 30 inches on a daily basis and 50 lbs. from waist level to chest on a daily basis; Typical equipment/materials that must be lifted includes but is not limited to tools, materials, lifting bars, valves; Able to climb up and down stairs and vertical ladders unassisted on a hourly basis.
