About the Role:
Virgin Media News is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Producer for our flagship current affairs programme, The Tonight Show. The Executive Producer will be responsible for setting a robust editorial agenda, leading the production team and outputting live programmes. Forward planning engaging topics with expert panelists representing both sides of the argument will be crucial, as will developing relationships with relevant stakeholders including outside agencies, political parties and panelists.
A keen understanding of the importance of diverse topic selection and the dynamics around panel discussions is a must. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in producing interesting, engaging and editorially-sound current affairs programming. They will have a strong journalistic background as well as sound editorial judgment and a strong understanding of politics and current affairs content. The producer will have good working knowledge of digital news platforms and digital production. This role will involve varied shifts outside of normal office hours.
Specific Duties & Tasks:
* Leading a production team in the preparation and management of high-quality journalistic programming that resonates with the VMTV audience.
* Generating ideas for topics and guests.
* Outputting live studio programmes.
* Booking contributors for panel discussions & one-on-one interviews.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant broadcast regulations and guidelines.
* Plan for special events such as elections and budgets.
* Line managing staff.
* Production team training and development.
* Manage programme budget, purchase orders and invoices.
* Monitor ratings and audience feedback and adapt to trends.
* Sourcing and posting digital news content from TV programmes to online platforms.
* Other newsroom duties as assigned by the Head of News.
Skills & Expertise:
* Extensive experience working in current affairs in television/radio.
* Thorough knowledge of the Irish political landscape.
* A strong contacts book.
* A strong understanding of defamation law.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent, proven editorial judgement.
* Excellent social media skills.
* Ability to work under pressure as part of a busy team and meet deadlines.
* Ability to work flexible hours.
* Exceptional organisational skills.
* Knowledge of digital news production.
