Staff Nurse FTC Inpatients General - UPMC Whitfield

Overview of role:
UPMC Whitfield are recruiting a Staff Nurse Inpatients General on a 12-month fixed term contract.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical:
1. Ensure the delivery of the highest possible standard of care to all patients.
2. Act as preceptor to preregistration students, mentor new clinical staff and new nonclinical staff.
3. Support and guide all colleagues when needed.
4. Liaise with link lecturers from affiliated nurse education departments regarding developing and maintaining UPMC Whitfield Hospital as a recognised learning environment for student nurses.
5. Develop and maintain effective communication and interpersonal relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
6. Support the unit manager by meeting agreed responsibilities as set out by the Unit Manager or the Director of Nursing.
7. Identify and discuss nursing/patient needs with consultants/nursing team, multidisciplinary team, patients, and carers.
8. Accept responsibility and be accountable for the holistic care of a named group of patients on a shift basis.
9. Ensure that the highest possible standards of patient care and patient safety are maintained at all times.
10. Demonstrate and promote a patient-centred style of clinical practice, acting as patient advocate at all times.
11. Provide emotional and psychological support to patients admitted to the unit for treatment.
12. Maintain high standards of communication, both written and verbal at all times.
13. Maintain own professional registration and submit to HR department for verification yearly.
Quality & Audit:
1. Participate and lead in clinical audit and research activity within the field.
2. Undertake research/clinical audit as necessary, critically analyse and provide written reports.
3. Participate in local audits in preparation for annual accreditation.
4. Work closely with the Quality and Patient Safety team, ensuring the department meets accreditation standards.
Health & Safety:
1. Uphold UPMC Whitfield Hospital's policy requirements in relation to Fire, Infection Control, and Health and Safety at work regulations.
2. Identify potential risks for all staff, patients and visitors and adhere to incident reporting procedures.
3. Observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and well-being of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients.
Professional/ Educational:
1. Develop skills to act as shift coordinator/Team Leader.
2. Manage workload to ensure patient care needs are met.
3. Be responsible for the care, control, storage and administration of drugs according to guidelines.
4. Develop appropriate IT skills to work efficiently within the clinical environment.
5. Liaise directly with consultants regarding specific patient care and bed allocation.
6. Report any accidents, incidents or complaints according to UPMC Whitfield Hospital Guidelines.
7. Practice and demonstrate research-based nursing care.
8. Undertake specific training required to perform your role.
9. Observe complete confidentiality of all information including adherence to GDPR legislation.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Be a registered general nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
2. Evidence of ongoing CPD.
