The role
Pharmaceutical Technician
0.4 WTE, Part Time, Specified Purpose Contract
The Pharmaceutical Technician will report to the Chief Pharmacist.
The standard working week applying to the post is 14 hours per week, i.e., 9am - 5pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

Location
This role will be based at St Patrick’s University Hospital in Dublin 8.
Responsibilities
* Undertaking the workload assigned by the senior pharmaceutical technician or pharmacist in charge
* Dispensing prescriptions for service users and staff
* Dispensing controlled drugs
* Dispensing and maintaining specialised drugs (e.g., clozapine) in accordance with hospital policy and associated point of care testing
* Maintaining accurate dispensing records
* Participating in sorting returned drugs for recycling or destruction
* Participating in stock rotation, stock level maintenance, checking expiry dates
* Liaising with other departments and services as required
* Assuming responsibility for service delivery in the assigned area, such as ward top ups
* Participating in audit protocols and policy formation as appropriate
* Participating in mandatory training programmes (e.g., policies and procedures, fire training and manual handling) and continuing education
* Participating in the compounding of extemporaneous products
* Maintaining an out of hours room
* Observing and reporting to the chief pharmacist / senior pharmaceutical technician any unusual situation, occurrences, conditions, or complaints, including those related to drugs, drug requests, drug usage or security within the pharmacy or hospital
* Undertaking all other duties relevant to the position as may be assigned from time to time

Terms and Conditions
Tenure: 0.4 WTE Specified Purpose (Maternity Leave Cover).
Working Week: 14 hours per week, 9am to 5pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Salary: The salary for the position is based on the SPMHS 2025 Pharmaceutical Technician pay scale (€43,034 - €52,365) pro rata and is commensurate with experience.
Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the position is 27 days pro rata.
Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme after successful completion of probation. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%.
In respect of an internal appointment being made, the individual’s existing pension arrangements will continue.
Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder’s performance will be subject to ongoing review.
Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.
Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: The appointee must be of good character.
