Overview
As a Commis Chef, you will be a vital part of our culinary team, working alongside experienced chefs to prepare, cook, and present dishes of exceptional quality. This entry-level role is perfect for someone passionate about food, eager to learn, and ready to take their first steps in a professional kitchen. You’ll gain hands-on experience across multiple kitchen sections while contributing to a fast-paced and dynamic environment at The Ross Hotel.
Key Responsibilities
1. Food Preparation and Cooking:
Assist in preparing, cooking, and plating dishes as directed by the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef. Handle mise en place for various sections, ensuring all ingredients are prepped and available for service.
2. Hygiene and Organization:
Maintain high cleanliness standards across all workstations and the kitchen. Follow strict food safety and hygiene protocols at all times.
3. Stock Management:
Assist with stock rotation, inventory management, and proper storage of ingredients. Help receive and check deliveries to ensure quality and accuracy.
4. Learning and Development:
Work in various sections of the kitchen (starters, mains, pastry, grill, larder) to gain a comprehensive understanding of culinary operations. Continuously develop your culinary skills through training sessions and hands-on experience.
5. Operational Support:
Support senior chefs with tasks such as preparing for events, crafting special menu items, and executing daily service. Ensure proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment, reporting any issues to senior staff.
6. Team Collaboration:
Maintain clear and effective communication with all members of the kitchen team. Participate actively in team briefings and contribute to creating a smooth and productive kitchen environment.
