Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
1. Personal Care & Assistance
o Support clients with morning and evening routines, including dressing, undressing, washing, bathing, and toileting.
o Assist individuals with mobility, incontinence, and the use of personal aids and equipment.
o Provide compassionate care for individuals who are temporarily unwell, including assistance with feeding and bed care.
o Deliver sensitive and respectful end-of-life care for clients with terminal illnesses.
2. Emotional & Social Support
o Encourage clients’ mental and physical well-being through conversation, social engagement, outings, and recreational activities.
o Promote independence and dignity wherever possible.
o Provide companionship and emotional support to clients.
3. Household & Domestic Support
o Maintain a clean and comfortable living environment, including making and changing beds, performing light cleaning tasks, and emptying commodes.
o Assist with laundering, inspecting, and minor mending of clients’ clothing.
o Support with meal preparation, setting tables, serving meals, and tidying up afterward.
4. Documentation & Reporting
o Accurately record care activities and participate in client care plan reviews.
o Report any significant changes in a client’s health or circumstances to the Care Supervisor, Care Coordinator, or Care Manager.
o Ensure client information is updated and effectively communicated to management.
5. Compliance & Professional Standards
o Adhere to all Elm Homecare policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in Ireland.
o Maintain the highest standards of care, ensuring dignity, respect, and a person-centred approach at all times.
o Ensure client safety through accurate recording, observation, and reporting.
General Duties
1. Deliver the highest quality of care and assistance to clients in line with their Care Plans.
2. Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and their families.
3. Assist clients with daily activities such as personal hygiene, dressing, and eating.
4. Support clients with mobility, including moving from bed, walking, and using mobility aids.
5. Assist clients with exercise and rehabilitation activities prescribed by healthcare professionals.
6. Support nursing staff with wound care, dressing changes, and personal examinations when needed.
7. Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for clients, contributing to their overall well-being.
8. Understand and adhere to Elm Homecare’s Health and Safety policies and Emergency and Fire procedures.
9. Ensure hygiene and cleanliness of the home environment are maintained to the highest standard.
10. Report any illnesses, infections, or accidents involving clients, staff, or self in line with regulations and company policies.
11. Participate in fire safety training and evacuation drills.
12. Properly handle and store cleaning agents and ensure all safety precautions are followed, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
13. Maintain and properly store all equipment and report any faulty or hazardous items to the Line Manager.
14. Follow infection control policies and promote safe working practices.
15. Dispose of waste and hazardous materials in accordance with HACCP regulations.
Training & Development
1. Attend mandatory training sessions, on-site or off-site, as required.
2. Maintain professional knowledge and competence in healthcare practices.
3. Participate in staff meetings and development sessions.
4. Ensure compliance with fire safety regulations, the company’s safety statement, and HACCP guidelines.
Requirements
Qualifications
* Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
* QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support or a minimum of Care Skills and Care of the Older Person modules (or equivalent).
* Understanding of the scope of practice for social and healthcare professionals.
Experience
* Previous experience in a similar role.
* Familiarity with the National Standards for Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children.
* Minimum of one year’s experience in a healthcare environment.
* Experience in caring for the elderly.
* Knowledge of health and safety legislation.
* Understanding of fire and safety protocols.
Skills
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.
* Strong time management, organisational, and communication skills.
* Ability to work well within a team environment.
* Flexibility and adaptability to the needs of the company.
