Head of Flight Operations (HFO)
We are looking for a Head of Flight Operations (HFO) to join our growing team.
The HFO is responsible for implementing aviation-related regulations, processes, authorizations, and systems within A-techSYN. This role involves planning, overseeing, and executing flight operations as required by the company.
About A-techSYN
A-techSYN Ltd (Advanced Technologies with Synergy) is an all-in-one solution provider for Unmanned Aviation Systems (UAS) based in Shannon, Ireland. A-techSYN’s products consist of proprietary UAS solutions including field proven LALE Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) fixed wing UAVs and mid to high-speed Target Drones.
A-techSYN not only develops and manufactures UAS, Autopilot and key electronic components, but also trains operators and mechanics, provides MRO and even flight services to customers.
Internally developed IP, easy and quick integration of new equipment to the platforms, integration of systems with existing infrastructure, customization of the UAS products to customer requirements and low cost of ownership are some of the key differentiators of A-techSYN as an independent and highly flexible company.
A-techSYN’s flagship is a leading VTOL UAV – the CGT50- with superior and bespoke underlying technology. The product is in the LALE segment and has high payload capacity (5Kg) and long endurance (6 hours). The systems are well known for the low cost of ownership powered by the high rate (80%) of in-house IP.
Key Responsibilities for the HFO:
Flight Operations Management
* Plans, oversees, and executes training, testing, and demonstration flights.
* Monitors and audits flight operations to ensure compliance.
* Serves as the final decision-maker for flight activities involving his team and equipment.
* Leads and manages pilots and technicians in the Flight Operations Teams (FOTs).
* Reports directly to the CEO.
Flight Operations Quality & Safety
* Ensures compliance with airworthiness requirements and regulatory safety standards.
* Oversees the safety of flight operations, ensuring high safety and efficiency standards.
* Ensures flight team competence and allocates personnel and resources effectively.
* Implements technical orders (TOs) and bulletins to enhance training, flight, and maintenance procedures.
* Implements and oversees the Safety Management System (SMS).
* Utilizes Flight Operations-related software to ensure efficient workflows.
Regulatory Compliance:
* Ensures adherence to operational authorizations obtained from the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA).
* Applies company manuals and ensures compliance with established procedures.
* Serves as the primary point of contact (POC) for the IAA.
Training Oversight
* Plans, supervises, and audits training programs for flight operations.
* Ensures training effectiveness and compliance with operational standards.
Documentation and Compliance
* Acts as an Author, Editor, Reviewer, or Contributor for A-techSYN operational manuals, technical documents, Concept of Operations (Con-Ops), ERP (Emergency Response Plan), Specific Operations Risk Assessments (SORA) and applications to Civil Aviation Authorities.
Research & Development (R&D) and Innovation
* Serves as an expert user of A-techSYN systems, providing feedback to improve safety, quality, and performance.
* Contributes operational insights for new products in development.
* Tests and approves flight control and human interface software, both in simulation and real-world environments.
Project Management
* Oversees day-to-day project operations, including work plans, resource allocation, and milestone tracking.
* Ensures strong collaboration with engineering teams and Program Delivery Leads.
* Engages proactively with stakeholders for seamless project execution.
* Serves as the lead contact for clients during flight operations.
* Continuously assesses and improves operational methods and resource management.
ISO 9001 Compliance
* Follows established ISO 9001 quality management procedures.
* Conducts audits and ensures proper reporting practices.

Minimum Qualifications
* UAS Drone Pilot License (Categories A1/A3).
* Minimum of 5 years of aviation experience in operations, certification, or maintenance within EASA-regulated or unmanned aircraft operations.
* Strong commitment to quality-first and safety-first approaches.
* In-depth understanding of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and operations.
* Experience with aviation quality audits and safety management meetings.
* Proven project management experience.
