Key job responsibilities
As a software engineer, you are responsible for building software systems that drive network reliability through automation, and play a key role in delivering software that is impactful to Amazon customers and businesses. You are customer obsessed, and work closely with your customers to work backwards from their needs to solve problems through innovation. Your input is key in making the right technology choices and tradeoffs, and you have excellent judgement that balances moving quickly to deliver features and ensuring designs and implementations can stand the test of time. You are a software practitioner, delivering code that sets the bar for quality, elegance, and efficiency, and you relentlessly insist on the highest standards for yourself and your teams. You mentor more junior engineers, and are genuinely excited to share your knowledge and experience with others.

AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS)
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
