In 1961 Leonard Cheshire set up Ireland's first Cheshire service in Shillelagh, Co. Wicklow, supported by volunteers, and since then further services have developed around the country. Initially, these services were supported by local voluntary management committees who oversaw the running of the services and who fundraised locally. Over time, the Health and Social Care environment in Ireland changed with an increased requirement for governance and oversight.

Who we are looking for:
* Hold or be in the process of undertaking a minimum of QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support or a minimum of QQI Level 6 Social Care or a Nursing qualification.
* Have experience in supporting people with disabilities.
* Hold or be working towards gaining a Full Manual Driving license and willingness to drive for work.
* Desire for personal and professional development.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Eligibility to work in Ireland is essential.
* Good Standard of verbal and written English.
* Computer literate (experience with online care management systems an advantage).
* Personal integrity and trustworthiness.
* Willing to embrace change and is committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning throughout the service.
* Committed to the principles of rights-based, person-centred services.
* Candidates who have experience and no qualifications may be hired if they are willing to undertake and complete QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support within two years of the commencement of their role.

Opened in 1961, Ardeen was the first Cheshire Home in Ireland. It consists of a beautiful period house which is surrounded by 15 bungalows, a number of stone cottages and a modern respite house. The centre overlooks the quaint village of Shillelagh and boasts magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. The village offers the community a shop, post office, public house, hairdressers, beauticians, two churches and the famous Shillelagh stick shop.
Because of Ardeen's location, Residents can also access shopping and services in towns in Wicklow, Wexford and Carlow. There is a vibrant programme of individual and group activities within the centre.
Care is provided by our dedicated team of Care Support workers overseen by Senior Care Workers and guided by our team of registered nurses and Head of Care.
