In Ireland, Abbott currently employs about 6,000 people across ten sites located in Dublin, Donegal, Clonmel, Cootehill, Galway, Kilkenny, Longford and Sligo.
The Process Manager’s main responsibilities will include:
* Ensure that both they and everyone under their direction follow all Health and Safety Rules and Regulations in the plant.
* Report any current or potential hazards to your immediate manager immediately.
* Consult any SOPs for all tasks he/she may carry out and ensure they fully understand and adhere to the SOP.
* Housekeeping and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) are critical elements of our business and the Process Engineering Manager is expected to ensure all craftsmen and contractors working under his/her supervision ensure all associated requirements are observed and carried out appropriately.
* Help establish with the Operations, Engineering, & EHS Managers the departmental goals, schedules and timetables for activities.
* Maintain open communications with all other departments.
* Plan and schedule work in accordance with plant demand and available manpower.
* Ensure compliance with Abbott International Global Standards, GMP & Environmental requirements.
* Promote good employee relations and engagement on site.
* Drive a Continuous Improvement culture through effective Root Cause Analysis and structured problem solving to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
* Deputize for Operations Manager in their absence.

Major Responsibilities
* Manage and execute complex projects in a highly regulated, quality-controlled food manufacturing environment with specialist Evaporation and Spray Drying equipment for infant formula manufacturing.
* Model manufacturing and automated processes in the process area in order to maximize understanding within the function.
* Provide oversight, coaching and capability development of the technical team within the Value stream.
* Ensure that all new equipment is validated as per QA procedures.
* Calculate and organize all data for complex process flow sheets, including instrumentation and control considerations. Ensure proper sequence of operation and prepare specifications and operating instructions for processing equipment.
* Conduct tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over such variables as temperature, density, pressure and viscosity, etc.
* Service, troubleshoot, and solve engineering problems with processes or equipment via a cross-functional structured problem-solving approach.
* Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulatory requirements.
* May be responsible for corrective and preventive actions, and investigation management.
* Develop, communicate, and implement operational plans for completing complex specialist projects in the area.
* Take pro-active action to resolve operational problems and minimize downtime.
* Participate in selecting and managing the activities of contractors to ensure they are integrated into the relevant projects and the organization receives satisfactory standards of service.
EDUCATION & COMPETENCIES:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Food Process Engineering or equivalent discipline.
* Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in Engineering.
* Prior experience in a Dairy/Food Process Engineering role is very desirable.
* Knowledge of Spray drying operations and/or Evaporation is desirable.
* Knowledge or experience in Thermal processing of Dairy based products is desirable.
* Knowledge or experience in Powder conveying systems.
* Knowledge or experience in ATEX rated environments and their constraints.
* Experience in highly Automated Manufacturing Environments with a solid understanding of pharma/food processing equipment is essential.
* The ability to organize, motivate and understand teams.
* Good mental ability to logically pursue a structured problem-solving approach.
