Amazon Security is looking for a driven professional to join its systems engineering team to manage the operation of our physical access control system (PACS), as well as help us automate a sustainable and robust architecture for future growth. Do you enjoy reverse engineering and diving deep on issues? As a system engineer, you will be responsible for the overall health of our service and provide excellent customer service to our partners. You will create availability and health metrics, monitor performance, perform regular system maintenance, and architect innovative solutions for running a PACS in a large distributed environment.
You will automate routine tasks enabling the team to be quick and agile. You'll be one of our experts in system automation. You’ll work closely with internal customers to understand their operational challenges and provide helpful solutions. You should enjoy digging deep to find answers, sometimes this will require reverse engineering existing solutions, a situation you thrive in.
This position will require participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Key job responsibilities
We primarily support Windows server, using HyperV for virtualization, but in recent months our scope of infrastructure expertise has broadened from bare metal hosts/VMs to solutions that run on Native AWS Services. Our team has a core function of ensuring Lenel application and system stability, often diving deep to trouble-shoot common issues, as well as anomalies, working closely with our partners. On a day-to-day basis, we strive for engineering and operational excellence through patching, and other security compliance activities, along with deploying scripting/automation solutions to build servers and monitor their performance.
A day in the life
In the coming months, we are looking to reduce tech debt by replacing legacy servers and upgrading our version of Lenel to increase system stability and support down-stream applications that rely on our service to perform with a higher level of availability. Engineers will have the opportunity to prepare our current systems for company-wide upgrade and design new automated deployment solutions, as well as refresh how we monitor. We also need to solve for improved methods of certificate rotation and license upgrades that are automated for our team and seamless to end-users.
