Purpose Statement:
As the Component Engineer/Supplier Manufacturing Engineer, you will drive improvement and corrective actions in the quality of components sourced from outside suppliers.
You will provide technical support in the selection of suppliers and support the development of acceptance criteria for materials.
Your responsibilities include:
1. Establishing incoming inspection and test procedures and providing technical support to manufacturing to resolve material or supplier-related issues.
2. Developing new supply sources with the purchasing team and qualifying components to specified parameters.
3. Assessing potential new suppliers for technical and manufacturing capabilities and providing technical support for the introduction of components from a new supplier.
4. Managing projects to reduce material cost or reduce material supply risks.
5. Working with Receiving Improvement teams relating to component usage or design.
6. Leading on Process Improvement teams relating to component usage or design.
7. Reviewing material specification releases and revisions as required.
8. Investigating field failures related to supplier materials and developing a corrective action plan where necessary.
9. Managing/participating in teams to conduct business risk assessments and developing action plans to reduce or eliminate risks.
Education and Job Skills:
1. NQF level 7 in a relevant discipline and +2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
2. Working technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. General understanding of business unit/group function.
3. Cultivates a wide range of internal networks and begins to develop an extensive external network of resources to facilitate completion of tasks.
4. Plans, organises, and prioritises own daily work routine to meet established schedule.
5. Exercises authority and judgment within defined limits to determine appropriate action.
6. Works under general supervision. Follows established procedures.
