Exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Manager to relocate to Canada (British Columbia or Ontario) and join the Building Division of one of Canada's largest Main Contractor, working across a mixed portfolio of High-Rise, Commercial, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Transportation, and Educational projects.
About the Role
Reporting to the Design Director, you will lead the design process, ensuring compliance, risk management, and cost-effective solutions. You will engage with stakeholders, chair design meetings, and oversee Design Specialists and Coordinators across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Design Compliance & Quality: Ensure adherence to design policies, procedures, and quality control plans while meeting compliance and contractual obligations.
* Risk, Cost & Performance Management: Identify and mitigate design risks, ensure cost-effective solutions, track performance specifications, and manage budget or contract variances.
* Team Leadership & Coordination: Oversee direct reports, manage deliverables, and align design efforts with Bid and Project Execution teams while ensuring efficient project execution.
* Technical Oversight & Constructability: Audit design documents for accuracy, oversee clash-detection processes, and collaborate with the Construction team to address constructability concerns.
* Stakeholder Engagement & Negotiation: Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and project teams, ensuring smooth collaboration and resolution of design-related issues.
Requirements
Hold a degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field; LEED, PMP, and P. Eng designations are advantageous. Possess 15+ years of experience in construction, with at least 5 years as a Design Manager on design-build projects of similar scope.
Experience with Level 3 projects and working within the relevant division, preferably for a design-builder using design-build procurement methods is required.
Proven ability to manage at least 2-3 people, leading teams and overseeing project execution effectively.
Strong skills in MS Office Suite, BIM software, Navisworks (3D/4D), and REVIT (data extraction, model review) are essential.
