Job Title: Human Resources Director (Voluntary Position)

Role Overview:
Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland (WRI) is seeking a dedicated Human Resources Director to join our Board of Directors. The HR Director for WRI will play a pivotal part-time role in shaping and supporting the organisation’s HR practices, contributing to our mission of protecting and rehabilitating Ireland's wildlife. This voluntary board position is ideal for an HR professional who can bring expertise to help WRI foster a strong and positive organisational culture. Initially, the role will involve working with a small team, with the possibility of expanding responsibilities as the organisation grows with more staff and volunteers. The role requires active engagement beyond traditional board oversight, involving close collaboration with the CEO and team members.
Key Responsibilities:
1. HR Strategy Development: Develop and implement HR policies and strategies that support WRI’s mission and organisational goals. Ensure HR strategies align with WRI’s values, supporting a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusivity.
2. Recruitment and Onboarding: Oversee the recruitment process, including drafting job descriptions, screening candidates, and assisting with interviews as needed. Support the onboarding of new staff and volunteers, ensuring a positive, smooth transition into the organisation.
3. Staff and Volunteer Support: Provide guidance and mentorship to staff and volunteers, fostering professional growth and well-being. Offer support for team development initiatives, including training, conflict resolution, and professional development opportunities.
4. Performance Management: Work with the CEO to implement performance management processes that encourage accountability, support, and constructive feedback. Assist with developing and monitoring clear performance goals for staff, fostering an environment of continuous improvement.
5. Policy Development and Compliance: Draft and update policies related to HR practices, health and safety, and compliance with employment laws. Stay informed about recent changes to HR legislation and ensure that WRI’s HR practices are up-to-date, legally compliant, and reflect best practices in nonprofit HR management.
6. Well-being and Retention: Advocate for staff and volunteer well-being, creating a positive work environment and high retention rates. Implement initiatives and support mechanisms addressing mental health, work-life balance, and team morale.
7. Board Collaboration: Actively participate in monthly Zoom/hybrid board meetings, sharing insights and providing HR expertise. Collaborate with other directors to ensure cohesive, strategic decision-making that aligns with WRI’s mission.
Commitment: This part-time role involves approximately 1 board meeting per month via Zoom or hybrid format, with additional availability to assist the CEO on HR matters as needed.
Requirements:
1. Previous experience in HR management or as an HR director, ideally with experience in nonprofits or volunteer-based organisations.
2. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and foster a supportive environment.
3. Awareness of recent HR legislation and a commitment to ensuring that practices remain compliant.
4. Commitment to WRI’s mission and values, along with a genuine interest in wildlife conservation.
