Social Care Worker
Ability West is recruiting a Social Care Worker for an Exciting Opportunity in Residential Service - Galway City. We are seeking qualified Social Care Workers to join our dedicated team and make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
At Ability West, we provide a wide range of high-quality services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism across Galway City and County. Our services include day, residential, short breaks, community supports, rehabilitative training, and multi-disciplinary supports. The Role
The Social Care Worker will provide residential and respite care within a staff team for children and adults with an intellectual disability attending Ability West's services. The key duties include:
* Acting as Person in Charge in the absence of the Service Manager
* Working positively and constructively with people who present with behaviours that challenge
* Teaching specific skills to service users living in the home
* Administering, supervising, and recording prescribed medication
* Providing direction for Care Assistants
* Caring for the day-to-day needs of people living in the service
* Maintaining records and reports required by the Service Manager
* Ensuring the health and welfare of staff and people supported is maintained
* Adhering to HIQA standards
Essential Criteria
* A professional degree (minimum level 7) in Applied Social Studies or relevant qualification
* CORU Registration or in process of registration
* Previous experience working with people with an intellectual disability or similar field
* Full current driving license with access to your own vehicle
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Strong problem-solving skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
