Job Description:
This role is responsible for ensuring the company is conforming to best practice Environmental, Health and Safety issues and is in compliance with legislative requirements. This involves developing policies & procedures, conducting audits, providing relevant training, liaising with external authorities and detailed reporting.
The EHS Officer must foster close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to engender a heightened awareness of EHS issues amongst employees, contractors and management.
Responsibilities
General
1. Managing all aspects of the company's compliance in line with statutory regulations.
2. Monitoring all current and emerging EHS regulations and developing strategies/programs to ensure compliance.
3. Developing and maintaining the company's EHS management systems and internal policies & procedures in accordance with standards such as ISO14001.
4. Optimising and developing programs to reduce environmental, health and safety risks.
5. Developing an in-depth understanding of technical processes and methods used throughout company operations.
6. Maintaining knowledge of the waste industry best practice and other standards in health and safety domains.
7. Building an in-depth understanding of EHS operational practices and implementing new systems and processes in an accurate, timely and efficient way.
8. Evaluating processes, systems and equipment for EHS impacts.
9. Developing with site management, measures including risk assessments and health & safety plans to assure personnel safety on site.
10. Liaising with external authorities such as EPA, HAS, Local Authorities on EHS related matters and site visits, audits, accident investigations etc.
11. Representing the Company during outside Agency Audits/Inspections.
H&S General
1. Implementing and updating Health & Safety plans and procedures for the group as required.
2. Updating and maintaining Health and Safety procedures and a comprehensive Safety Statement for the Group in compliance with Regulatory requirement.
3. Carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced.
4. Advising Managers on Health & Safety initiatives relevant to their department.
5. Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Authority (HSA) legislation and any developments that affect the industry.
6. Improving the health and safety culture, through training and awareness.
7. Managing Environmental issues within the group.
8. Conducting Environmental testing and completing returns to ensure the Group complies with Environment regulations and Environmental permits.
9. Environmental monitoring and management.
10. Energy management and energy saving initiative.
11. Water management and conservation.
12. Waste management and minimisation.
13. Promoting and developing energy, water and resource conservation programs.
14. Monitoring of the hangar performance and IPPC sampling, monitoring of all environmental mitigation measures.
15. Actively managing any safety incidents to minimise company exposure.
16. Managing accident/incident investigations and ensuring all accidents/incidents are reported in an appropriate manner.
17. Maintaining records of accidents and incidents and producing statistics for senior management.
Audits
1. Leading and managing EHS inspections, surveys and audits.
2. Developing and implementing a safety audit plan to attain ISO14001 & 18001 standards.
3. Supporting and assisting Quality Manager with Paint Organisation and Part 145 Audits/Non-conformance follow up.
4. Ensuring adequate evacuation and response arrangements are in place for fire and emergency situations.
5. Ensuring emergency and contingency planning operates in a systematic manner.
Training
1. Identifying training needs and developing training programs on Environmental, Health & Safety control procedures for all employees.
2. Designing and delivering Environmental and Health & Safety Training and ensuring prompt and systematic induction, training and refresher training of all staff.
3. Delivering safety briefings as required.
4. Designing and delivering Human Factors initial and recurrent training.
5. Maintaining accurate records of training and a training matrix database.
Records/Reporting
1. Ensuring that an effective and appropriate EHS management system is maintained and that performance of the system, EHS goals and KPIs are tracked and reported to management.
2. Preparing EHS reports/metrics as required, particularly for submission to regulatory authorities.
3. Maintaining all safety records.
4. Maintaining a complete register of method statements and safety risk assessments relating to all aspects of jobs.
5. Managing and recording waste recycling and disposal procedures.
6. Assisting with the development and implementation of continuous improvement objectives and initiatives.
7. Any other reasonable duties as required by the company Directors.
Requirements:
1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
2. Experience of report writing and investigations.
3. Proven audit, evaluation and investigative skills.
4. Flexibility and availability for travel as required.
