A Clinical or Counselling Psychologist is required for the National Violence Reduction Unit (NVRU) in Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, Co. Laois.
The NVRU is a co-led unit, jointly managed by an Assistant Governor and Senior Psychologist. It was established to provide a psychologically informed service to individuals experiencing high levels of psychological/mental distress and displaying violence.
The men on the NVRU present with complex forensic and clinical needs, requiring intensive psychological assessment, support, and intervention.
The Psychology Service plays a significantly enhanced role in managing the Unit, which is psychologically informed on multiple levels.
The appointed Psychologist will support the development and running of the NVRU, delivering bespoke, multi-modal evidence-based psychological interventions as recommended in individual Care and Management Plans.
They will also contribute to the supervision and support of operational staff and develop a culture supporting joint operational/psychological approaches.
The Psychologist will receive supervision, support, and line management from the Senior Psychologist.
They will have opportunities to engage in CPD and work with Mentalisation Based Therapy approaches.
Essential qualifications include eligibility for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or British Psychological Society (BPS), and holding a postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology recognised by PSI.
