The Opportunity
The role of the Chief Transformation and Technology Office (CTTO) is to vision, lead, transform, digitise, deliver and support the transformational programme to deliver the power system and market to 2030 and beyond maximising the integration of renewables in a sustainable way at an affordable cost taking on board the voices of all aspects of our society. With an ultimate target of having a decarbonised power system in advance of 2050.
We are now seeking an ambitious and dynamic Head of Future Power Markets Design Authority who will be responsible for delivery of a market solution for 2030 which can support 80% renewables on average and 100% renewables on an instantaneous basis. This will involve developing the scenarios, options and optimum pathways to ensure that this ambition for the market is realised and that demand for electricity is met, whilst at the same time ensuring that security of supply is maintained on the island of Ireland.
As Head of Future Power Markets Design Authority, you will work closely with the Regulatory Authorities to evolve the Power Market solution to promote a secure reliable sustainable power system which maximises interconnector trading, renewable integration, and demand flexibility align with EU policy evolution. This evolution will include the evolving tariffs, the energy, system services, and capacity markets.
In your role, you will also work with Government officials in both jurisdictions to develop future renewable incentive schemes which will promote the connection of renewable in the best locations to achieve the governments targets e.g. RESS Auctions.
We will look to you to develop an integrated European Strategy and implementation programme which supports and underpins the EirGrid Group strategy. You will collaborate with the Head of Future Network and Strategic Offshore Design Authority in developing the TSO’s recommended changes to the market to enable the future zero net power system.
You will be a member of EirGrid’s management team and as such is expected to actively contribute to the overall achievement of EirGrid’s objectives as well as leading and motivating their own team to deliver on their departmental goals which underpins in delivering on EirGrid Groups strategy ambition.
You will lead a team of market specialists to develop the business requirements for the future power market including Future Arrangements System Service and scheduling & Dispatch.
About you
* Deep knowledge of all aspects of market operation and design, including understanding the stakeholder dimension from supplier, generators, larger energy users, Market operators to interconnectors.
* Experienced leader in the utility or energy sector with a deep understanding of the sector and the potential change disruptors.
* Degree level qualification in business, commerce, economics or engineering.
* Significant experience in market modelling and analysis.
* Deep understanding of the role and value of technology in delivering transformative change.
* Exceptional relationship management skills, capable of procuring and managing complex partnership structures to deliver highly technical solutions in support of EirGrid’s strategy.
* Visionary and strategic, able to use data and insights to drive the conversations about changes required for the future.
* Capable of influencing at national and international and effective in engaging the Board and sub-committees thereof in relevant matters.
