Position Description The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering for ESB's generation businesses and provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients.
We currently have an opportunity for a Chemistry & Environmental Specialist to join our Generation Engineering team. Our staff work on domestic and international power projects. The successful candidate will support E&MP in the delivery of power plant projects (Thermal, Hydro's & Renewables) within both new build and existing projects.
Key Responsibilities Provision of specialist Chemistry /Environmental advice, designs, support and recommendations to E&MP project teams.Ensuring that ESB / E&MP continue to remain up to date with latest developments in Chemistry technology utilised in the power generation industry.Provision and management of Chemistry specialist asset management services for the existing portfolio of ESB / E&MP power plants including undertaking audits, optimising plant operation, condition assessments, trouble shooting and fault investigations.Specification writing for procurement and refurbishment of the chemical aspects of equipment utilised in the Power Industry.Technical evaluation from a Chemistry and or perspective of contractor's proposals and finalisation of agreed technical content / scope of contracts.Technical design review from a Chemistry perspective of contractor's designs during execution phase of projects.Provide support to Generation to ensure compliance with relevant Environment legislation, accredited external standards and company standards including compliance with Licences Permits and supporting ISO14001 accreditation.Provision of compliance advisory services and auditing relating to all aspects of the measurement, management and control of emissions associated with the operation of thermal stations, hydro stations, and other renewable plants.Assist in providing leadership and technical guidance to generation sites on interpretations of Chemical and Environmental legislation.Engage effectively with all key internal and external stakeholders, agencies and be intimately aware of the various regulatory, licencing, and legislative frameworks (e.g., EPA, HSA, Dept of Environment).Ensuring that Chemistry related policies, Standards and Guidelines are kept up to date and relevant to business needs.Ability to evaluate Chemical contractor's proposals and finalisation of agreed technical content / scope of contracts and support the development and implementation and sign off new Chemical plant.Conduct audits and provide technical support relating to ongoing plant demolition and site remediation activities and provide guidance in relation to corrosion management for renewable projects.Operate and manage Chemical safety systems. Provide advice and support in Chemical Safety.Develop improvement plans to drive continuous improvement and ensure that all improvement programmes in all areas (Environment/ Chemical Plant/Systems) are implemented within time, cost, and scope targets.Other duties which may from time to time be assigned by Generation Engineering.Knowledge, Skills, and Experience A primary degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or equivalent.Minimum experience of 7 years in power generation industry or similar industry with particular emphasis on management of chemical processes and chemical asset management.Specialist chemistry knowledge of the selection; design; operation & maintenance of equipment utilised in the Power Generation Industry.Provision of specialist advice and support in chemical safety and chemical design, codes and standards across all areas of ESB.Ability to work and share knowledge and competencies within a team structure.Full driving licence with eligibility to drive in Ireland and access to a car.Experience in the following areas is of relevance:Chemical Plant Operation and Design.Chemical Safety - REACH and CLP Regulations.Analytical chemistry lab techniques particularly in relation to water treatment plant and water/steam cycle.Experience with Environmental Management Systems, Industrial Emission Licences and Green House Gas Permits.Knowledge of Health, Chemical Safety and Environment Legislation & Standards, procedures associated with chemical usage in the power industry.Minimum experience of 5 years in power industry with particular emphasis on the provision of specialist chemical asset management (for existing plants) and asset development services (for new build plants).Self-motivation and ability to project-manage own work.Location This position will be based at our EMP offices situated at One Dublin Airport Central or Eastgate, Cork. Travel to and from other EMP office locations and generation stations sites will feature as part of this role.
