The role
At DLA Piper, we are embracing technology to improve all areas of the service we deliver to our clients.
We are looking for someone to join our Legal Technology team as a Legal Technology Manager (12 month FTC) based in our Dublin office to perform a key role at the interface between new technologies, processes and the practice and business of law.
The purpose of our Legal Technology team is to enable optimisation in legal service delivery through technology. The team is part of the firm’s Law& group, and is responsible for the use of legal technology across all practice group areas in our international business. Our toolbench covers a range of fast-evolving tools, including collaboration and transaction management platforms, tools for document drafting, review and signing, and expert logic systems.
You will play a key role in enabling the firm to use legal technology to deliver a higher quality, more valuable and more effective service to our clients. We do this in a collaborative environment, and you will work closely with our lawyers, our Legal Delivery Centre, our Legal Project Management team and other members of our Law& function.
This is a role for a tech-curious individual who can bridge the gap between technology and the wider business in order to identify and develop opportunities to improve our work through tech-based solutions, articulate the value of technology, and manage the detail of its practical integration into our lawyers’ work.
As a Legal Technology Manager based in Dublin, you will have a dual focus: working on the team’s wider international work as well as driving local adoption of legal technology locally with our Dublin colleagues.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Working alongside colleagues in the Legal Technology team, the duties and responsibilities of a Legal Technology Manager are varied and they are international in scope. They include:
* Acting as a subject matter expert on the range of different legal tech tools managed by the team (including Kira, BRYTER, HighQ, Contract Express, Legatics and DocuSign) in order to support and manage their practical deployment and adoption across the firm’s practice groups and international locations, and advise colleagues and clients on the most effective use of those tools
* Developing an expert technical understanding of the capabilities of the tools themselves, keeping up to date with functionality updates as they evolve, and exploring different and novel ways of implementing them in order to solve new challenges. Developing and cultivating relationships with customer success contacts at existing suppliers to support this work
* Actively promoting and raising awareness of the legal tech solutions available within the firm, educating colleagues on the value they create for both the firm and our clients, and embedding their use in a strategic manner across the firm. Creating and delivering training programmes, presentations, and promotional materials (including case studies)
* Designing, delivering, and managing the deployment of legal technology on client and project-specific work, in collaboration with our lawyers and other Law& teams (in particular, our Legal Delivery Centre, and Legal Project Management teams). Working directly with contacts in client teams in an advisory capacity to gather and understand requirements to their needs, and to collaboratively design and deliver tech-based solutions
* Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams to build, deliver and enhance new and innovative client-facing services and products, in line with the firm’s Law& strategy
* Acting as an ambassador for Law&, promoting the services of the wider Law& team with a holistic solutions-based approach
* Working closely with other teams in the firm who manage the use of related tech tools, including our Electronic Data Management team on the use of e-discovery tools, and Data Science colleagues on the applications of AI – including identifying and delivering opportunities to build solutions which combine and integrate multiple different tools
* Maintaining awareness of the fast-moving legal technology market, liaising with new technology suppliers, feeding back with critical and strategic appraisal of new tools, and leading on pilots, trials and proof-of-concept projects
* Assisting with input into the firm’s wider legal technology strategy in support of the team’s management
* Overseeing and tracking the usage of our legal tech tools, reporting on adoption progress and value delivered. Assisting with team reporting and financial management
* Working closely with colleagues in our internal teams including Legal Risk, Operational IT and Finance to ensure that the legal tech tools we deploy and the way we use them meet governance and compliance requirements
* Supporting the firm’s business development and marketing work, including providing input into and attendance at pitches and presentations to showcase our tech solutions to clients
ABOUT YOU
* We are looking for someone who enjoys proactively seeking and solving problems through the use of technology, and is comfortable doing so in a collaborative and creative way with a wide and varied range of stakeholders from different areas and levels of a legal business
* Practical experience working with legal tech tools, including collaboration and transaction management platforms, tools for document drafting, reviewing and signing, as well as expert logic systems. Specific experience with tools currently in our toolbench is desirable (including Kira, BRYTER, HighQ, Legatics, Contract Express and DocuSign)
* Interest in legal transformation and change within the legal industry. Previous experience in the legal sector would be an advantage
* Interest in using design thinking techniques to shape and deliver solutions to our internal and external clients’ needs
* Strong communication skills, with an ability to empathise and to adapt according to different audiences. Unafraid to seek clarity or challenge where appropriate or necessary to make progress
* Analytical, inquisitive and solution-focussed.
* Attention to detail, with a commitment to rigour and quality of work
* Self-starting, with an ability to effectively and flexibly prioritise and manage a varied personal workload
