The purpose of this role is to perform various analytical tests on dairy, food, and infant formula samples using a variety of test methods and techniques in a busy INAB-accredited food and dairy chemistry contract laboratory. This will include validation of equipment and test methods to meet customer requirements as required. Assist with sample handling, preparation and data entry and approval using LIMS. Ensure requirements of quality system, ISO 17025 and INAB are adhered to in all activities. This position will be filled within a two week period.
Main responsibilities will include:
* Undertaking day-to-day effective, accurate and efficient processing of workload in the food chemistry laboratory and performing tasks assigned by the Team Lead/Lab Manager.
* Adhering to regulations and laboratory policies regarding health and safety and to maintain a clean and hygienic working environment.
* Handling and testing samples for various dairy and nutritional tests according to documented procedures, including attention to sample preparation, temperature control, storage and prevention of cross-contamination.
* Maintaining accurate and systematic records of testing.
* Having a sound knowledge of relevant documents within the Quality system including SOPs, Quality Manual, and relevant methods applicable to the post.
* Playing an active role in developing the capability and range of testing provided by the Laboratory to support profitable growth.
* Reporting any faults to the Team lead/Laboratory Manager.
* Participating in the training programme, undergoing further training as required and participating in schemes to ensure ongoing competence.
* Additional duties as required by the Senior Staff to fulfil the requirements and demands of the laboratory.
* Complying with all aspects of Eurofins H&S policy.
* Always upholding and maintaining confidentiality.
Qualifications
What we are looking for:
* Degree level qualification in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry or other relevant subject.
* Practical analytical chemistry and instrumentation experience (> 1 year) ideally in a high volume contract laboratory or food industry is preferable.
* Technically minded with aptitude for working with instrumentation.
* Very strong technical, report writing, and statistical skills would be an advantage.
* Practical analytical skills are desirable as well as theoretical knowledge of modern lab instruments.
* Record of ongoing professional development.
* Previous experience working within an accredited contract testing laboratory or food industry laboratory environment is preferred but full training will be provided.
* Thorough understanding of relevant quality system and accreditation requirements.
* Good keyboard skills and experience of LIMS Systems, MS Office packages in particular Excel.
* Good standard of written and spoken English and numeracy skills.
