We are seeking a Project Engineer to oversee the planning, supervision, and execution of both routine and non-routine maintenance across 343 bridges on the National Road and Motorway Network. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing infrastructure, identifying defects, and proposing potential improvements for future work orders. The role also involves maintaining the highest health and safety standards, managing direct labour and subcontractors, and optimising resource use for project execution.
Responsibilities:
* Site setting out and supervision of works.
* Coordinate work teams and subcontractors to ensure efficient execution.
* Develop project proposals and quantify work for internal and client review.
* Prepare budget costings in collaboration with the commercial team.
* Foster strong working relationships with local authorities, client representatives, emergency services, suppliers, and subcontractors.
* Liaise with client representatives regarding works and surveys.
* Prepare and manage project documentation, including RFIs, TQs, CVIs, and variation orders.
* Ensure project delivery aligns with contract standards, timelines, and budgets.
* Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
* Ensure compliance with company and legislative safety standards for all staff and subcontractors.
* Oversee and implement traffic management systems in line with national and company standards.
* Monitor, assess, and report on subcontractor performance and work quality.
* Maintain daily site records, including production logs and field data.
* Compile information for project safety files and ensure all documentation is up to date.
* Provide regular progress reports and escalate any project concerns in a timely manner.
* Ensure quality assurance procedures are followed throughout the project.
* Manage project personnel, ensuring working hours and compliance requirements are met.
* Represent the company in meetings with stakeholders, including client representatives and members of the public.
Requirements:
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related field.
* Approx. 5 years’ experience
* Industry-recognized safety training to the relevant standard.
* Self-motivated and capable of managing resources effectively across civil works.
* Adaptability and flexibility to handle diverse projects.
* Experience in civil engineering or road maintenance projects.
* Experience with traffic management (desirable).
* Strong understanding of highway operational regulations.
* Experience delivering infrastructure projects such as drainage systems, pavements, signage, bridge structures, or landscaping.
* Proven knowledge and experience in implementing health and safety policies.
