Job Title: Staff Nurse - Intensive Care Unit
**Department:** Intensive Care Unit
**Reports To:** Nurse Manager
**Overall Purpose of the Role**: Deliver professional nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for assigned patients, ensuring exceptional care in an environment where quality, respect, caring, and compassion are paramount.
### Key Responsibilities
* Provide direct nursing care to assigned patients.
* Conduct nursing assessments, summarize data, and identify patient care needs.
* Observe and document signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including physiological status, and communicate changes to the healthcare team.
* Implement individualized care plans for newly admitted patients.
* Deliver designated nursing interventions consistent with medical plans of care.
* Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer procedures, and support patients in daily activities.
* Execute physician's orders and safely administer medications and treatments.
* Notify nursing and medical staff of any changes in patient status.
* Independently manage care for assigned patients and perform specialized techniques.
* Maintain aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.
* Document all nursing care in patient records and ensure confidentiality.
* Evaluate care and reassess interventions based on patient responses.
### Clinical Responsibilities
* Familiarity with The Professional Scope of Practice Framework (NMBI 2000).
* Conduct individual assessments of patient needs and implement care plans.
* Involve patients' families and significant others in care as appropriate.
* Ensure adherence to nursing and hospital-wide policies and guidelines.
* Participate in the Total Quality Management processes, contributing to quality improvement and best practices.
### Managerial Responsibilities
* Communicate any issues to the Nurse Manager promptly.
* Maintain confidence and competence in hospital policies and guidelines.
* Efficiently manage documentation and handle complaints.
* Monitor risk management processes and facilitate effective interdisciplinary communication.
* Deputize for the Nurse Manager as required and participate in nursing communication processes.
### Personal & Professional Responsibilities
* Maintain a professional portfolio and utilize opportunities for patient and family education.
* Attend relevant study days and courses.
* Serve as a preceptor or supervisor to new staff and nursing students.
* Participate in performance reviews with the Nurse Manager.
### Educational Responsibilities
* Contribute to enhancing learning opportunities in the clinical area.
* Assist with the clinical induction of new nursing and support staff.
* Take responsibility for personal learning and development needs.
### Person Specification
* Qualifications: NMBI Registered General Nurse license.
* Experience: Preferred: 1 year of critical care experience.
