Title: Assistant Underwriter
Location: Dublin
(Hybrid – Remote working Mon/Fri every week)

Position Overview:
The Assistant Underwriter will assist in the management and growth of the Company’s business by supporting the underwriting team and the underwriting processes.
The role will also include responsibility for the management of information held on our in-house systems.
The role:
* Develop a good understanding of the overall AmTrust product range and be aware of the financial targets of the business and assist in the achievement of these budgets.
* Support in developing and underwriting a profitable portfolio of business as part of the Underwriting team, taking ownership of performance for allocated accounts and assisting in acquiring new business.
* Monitor premiums, costs and performance metrics for all schemes and advise on any remedial actions as appropriate to ensure long term portfolio profitability and within company rates of return.
* Evaluate appropriate risks by considering the risk costs, reinsurance cessions, capital exposure as well as the underwriting and general administrative costs to ensure profitability, using rating models as applicable.
* Assist in the preparation of individual account analysis, including claims data, as required.
* Provide Underwriters with accurate and timely information as required.
Engage with other departments and key stakeholders within the business as required.
* Liaise with underwriters in various AmTrust offices, ensuring the information provided is accurate and of high quality.
* Assist in the SOX, Internal and External Audit processes, collating information as required.
* Assist in the preparation of regular, and/or ad-hoc, accurate and timely reports on various underwriting areas as required.
* Contribute to the overall success of the Company through active and positive contribution.
* Participate in project work as required.
* Update and maintain AmTrust bespoke insurance systems in respect of both new business and renewals.
* Prepare policy terms and conditions, liaising with the Underwriting team to ensure robust standardized wordings.
* Comply with AmTrust’s underwriting control standards.
* Comply with AmTrust procedures, policies, processes and regulations relevant to the role. Undertake relevant training on AmTrust policies and procedures as delivered by your line manager, the HR team or Compliance team.
* Support strategies and plans in place for the management and control of key portfolio risk exposures.
* Support the development, implementation and execution of operational plans to meet strategic aims and corporate objectives.
* Demonstrate appropriate, consistent and complete consideration of our customers and potential customers’ interests, throughout our business, on a continuous basis.
* Other duties may be assigned in order to meet the on-going needs of the organisation.
* Occasional travel to meet with clients as required.
We’d love to hear from you if:
* Relevant 3rd level qualification would be an advantage.
* Willingness to work towards a recognised insurance qualification – minimum CIP.
* Previous experience in the Irish or international insurance market, directly underwriting or assisting in the underwriting and management of risks.
* Excellent numeracy skills with high level of attention to detail.
* Experience, knowledge and understanding of the Irish and European insurance industry and how it functions would be an advantage.
Functional/Technical Competencies
* Excellent Microsoft Office package skills, proficient in using VLookups and Pivot tables.
* Ability to work under own initiative.
* Ability to work with staff at all levels within the Group.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills including the ability to prioritise appropriately and meet deadlines.
