Description
The Advanced RF Technologies (ART) Group at Tyndall National Institute (TNI) and University College Cork, Cork, Ireland is inviting applications for a Masters by Research Fellowship in New Design & Integration Techniques for 6G RF Components and Antenna Sub-systems. We are looking for a highly-motivated research-driven individual with a strong background in RF circuit design, wave-propagation, and antennas to work on cutting-edge research in RF front-end-antenna sub-systems for the Internet of Everything (IoE). The successful candidate will pursue a MS by Research degree at University College Cork while working on a sponsored research project that may involve research in one of the following areas:
1. MMIC RF circuits and active components for tunable NR RF Front-Ends
2. Additively-Manufactured Reconfigurable 3D Waveguide RF Systems
The student researcher will become a member of a diverse and vibrant community of students, research professionals, and academics at TNI and UCC and will have access to world-class RF characterization, antenna measurement, and manufacturing facilities at TNI and UCC.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to:
* Carry out independent research which will result in high-impact publications (e.g., IEEE journals and conferences) and the successful completion of an MS by Research Degree.
* Perform RF design, electromagnetic design, manufacturing, testing, and integration of RF components.
* Prepare test plans, training tutorials, progress reports, literature reviews, and technical presentations.
* Participate in conferences and travel internationally.
* Work on individual projects and team projects and support the research and teaching activities of the group.
* Engage in teaching, lab organization, education, and public engagement activities.
Essential Criteria
* First class honors degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
* The candidate must have taken classes in electronic circuits, Electromagnetics, Microwave engineering, RF circuits, Antennas, and have achieved high grades.
* Experience with RF/Electromagnetic CAD design tools, e.g., ADS Keysight, CADENCE, and ANSYS HFSS, CST or equivalent.
* Bachelor’s thesis in areas relevant to the position.
* Experience in designing amplifiers.
* The candidate must have high analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
* The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in English alongside good scientific writing and communication skills.
* The candidate must be available to start no later than February 1st, 2024.
Desired Criteria
* Experience using network analyzer, RF probe station.
* Experience in using antenna characterization equipment.
* Experience in additive/digital/advanced manufacturing.
* Experience in PCB manufacturing.
* IEEE conference/journal publications.
What We Offer:
The fellowship will provide a 12 month-long student appointment at an annual rate of €25,000 to support the completion of a Master by Research degree at UCC with the potential to be extended to another year. The fellowship will also cover expenses towards University academic fees, travels to IEEE conferences to present the outcomes of the project, and training opportunities.
