Senior Psychologist Role
Irish Prison Service seeks a Senior Psychologist for locum position at Portlaoise Prison, Co. Laois.
About the Prison: Portlaoise prison is a closed high security facility housing adult males. It serves as the committal prison for those sent to custody from the Special Criminal Court and accommodates prisoners linked with subversive crime.
Key Responsibilities:
* Complete comprehensive assessments and formulate individuals referred to the psychology service.
* Develop behaviour monitoring procedures for each individual and contribute to multi-disciplinary Care and Management Planning.
* Provide specialist contribution to Care and Management Planning, ensuring recommendations are linked to the person's formulation.
* Engage in and supervise evidence-based psychological interventions as recommended in the Care and Management Plan.
Scope of Work:
The role involves assessing and intervening with people referred to the IPS Psychology Service due to mental health difficulties or offence-specific needs. This includes:
* Mental health difficulties: Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Personality and Behaviour Disorders, complex-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Self-Harm and Suicidal Behaviour, Eating Disorders, Psychosis and Schizophrenia, Addiction.
* Offence-specific needs: formal offence-related risk assessments, Parole Board reports, offence-related group and individual work, complex case consultation and risk management work.
* Developmental disorders, intellectual difficulties, cognitive decline, traumatic brain injuries, limited literacy, and diverse cultural backgrounds.
Interventions and Support:
* Variety of evidence-based group and 1:1 interventions.
Educational Qualifications and Experience:
* Graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or British Psychological Society (BPS).
* Postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology recognised by PSI.
* Minimum 2 years postgraduate experience as a Psychologist.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
* Experience addressing emotional, mental health and offence-related difficulties with a forensic population in a group setting.
* Providing consultation, education, guidance and support to multidisciplinary colleagues.
* Further therapeutic or research qualifications.
