Senior Medical Scientist or Senior Molecular Scientist
For the National Newborn Bloodspot Screening Laboratory (NNBSL)
Purpose of this role:
The purpose of this role is to progress assay verification for the introduction of SMA and SCID screening to the National Newborn Bloodspot Screening Programme.
Essential Criteria:
Qualifications for Senior Medical Scientist:
Candidates must, on the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the post, possess:
1. Bachelor in Science (Applied Science) Honours degree (Biomedical option) from the Technological University of Dublin, Grangegorman (A)
2. Bachelor in Science Honours degree in Biomedical Science from the Joint University College Cork – Cork Institute of Technology course (B)
3. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin Street or the Cork Institute of Technology awarded prior to 1994 (C)
4. Possess Certificate in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin Street or Cork Institute of Technology or the Galway/ Mayo Institute of Technology (awarded prior to 1997) (C)
5. A recognised qualification at least equivalent to (A), (B), or (C) above;
and
1. Be registered with CORU
2. Possess a postgraduate degree in the field of Medical Laboratory Science
3. Have attained the fellowship examination of the Institute of Biomedical Science
4. Possess a fellowship of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science (FAMLS) or be eligible for fellowship
5. Have four years’ experience in a medical laboratory since qualifying as a Medical Laboratory Scientist
Medical Scientists who qualified outside Ireland must provide evidence from CORU Medical Scientist Registration Board that their qualifications have been approved as a Medical Scientist and must meet criteria for CORU recognition.
