Job Objectives
To meet the ongoing expansion of the service, we are currently seeking applications from suitably qualified Basic Grade Occupational Therapist interested in joining Nua Healthcare’s Occupational Therapy team. The role is a hybrid model of working with opportunities to work from home, in our office based in Naas Co. Kildare and conduct assessment and intervention in Nua Healthcare Centres as required. Candidates must demonstrate the necessary interest, capability, performance and enthusiasm in line with the requirements of this role.
This will include the following on a day-to-day basis:
Clinical:
1. Manage a caseload of children and adults residing in Nua Healthcare providing assessment, intervention and evaluation of treatment programmes across self- care, leisure and productive occupations
2. Engage in interdisciplinary working with members of the clinical team including but not limited to Consultant Psychiatrists, Behaviour Specialists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Care Workers and Assistance Support Workers to meet the person-centred needs of service users on your caseload
3. Complete environmental assessments to ensure that an individual’s environment is accessible to his/her specific sensory and/or physical support requirements
4. Carry out reviews of service users’ postural support needs and complete basic and complex seating assessments as required
5. Complete assessments of service users’ sensory processing and advise on strategies to best support their sensory processing difficulties
6. Support service users transition back into the home after being hospitalised as required
7. Promote purposeful engagement in self-care, leisure and productive pursuits for all age profiles with due regard for the individual’s abilities and preferences.
8. Work with service users and staff to assist in improving service users’ safety and independence in activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living.
9. Facilitate evidenced based group therapy programmes in line with the assessed needs of the service users.
10. Complete detailed reports for internal/external stakeholders and ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and reports are in accordance with Nua Healthcare policy and professional standards.
11. Provide support to key stakeholders for carry over of Occupational Therapy recommendations.
12. Advise schools on how best to support service users’ sensory or learning needs.
13. Attend and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical department meetings and occupational therapy department meetings.
14. Direct and supervise Occupational Therapy students.
15. Attend and work the days and hours which s/he is assigned.
16. Demonstrate professional conduct and behaviour by adhering to legal, ethical and professional practice standards in all aspects of practice.
17. Maintain files and records on service users in accordance with the records policy.
Education and Training
18. Complete any mandatory trainings assigned through Nua Healthcare’s Learning Management System.
19. Attending internal/external conferences/ courses relevant to practice.
20. Participate in and follow up on actions set or learnings identified from clinical supervision and performance appraisals.
Quality Improvement
21. Participate in the annual Occupational Therapy Department Strategic Planning meetings and support the attainment of strategic goals.
22. Contribute to the sharing of knowledge and best practice both within the Occupational Therapy Department and wider Nua Healthcare Service.
23. Promote the Nua Healthcare Occupational Therapy Department at both a local and national level.
Health & Safety
24. Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation
25. Be aware of and implement agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice by adhering to relevant legislation, regulations and standards
26. Actively participate in risk management issues, identify risks and take responsibility for appropriate action
27. Report any incidents/accidents/near misses in accordance with Nua Healthcare policies and procedures
28. Have a knowledge of HIQA and Mental Health Commission Standards as they apply to the role for example
Skills Requirement
Qualification:
29. Hold a Degree/ Masters in Occupational Therapy from a 3rd level institution offering a programme of study accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
30. Be registered with CORU or show proof of pending registration at application stage.
Knowledge:
31. Knowledge of individual care planning and experience contributing to individual risk assessment.
Experience:
32. Post-qualification work experience as an Occupational Therapist within disability services/ mental health services.
33. Evidence of a commitment to continuous professional development (CPD).
34. Experience in the implementation of sensory integration approaches with a recognised sensory integration course completed.
