Dogs for the Disabled (DFD) is seeking an experienced and compassionate physiotherapist to join our team on a contract basis. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a pioneering physiotherapy program that complements our work providing mobility assistance dogs to children with balance and walking difficulties.
About Us
DFD empowers children with physical disabilities by pairing them with highly trained mobility assistance dogs. To further enhance the independence and quality of life for our clients, we are introducing a specialized physiotherapy program to go alongside their assistance dog.
Key Responsibilities
* Program Development and Implementation: Design and deliver personalized physiotherapy programs for children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and ataxia, incorporating activities both with and without their assistance dogs.
* Collaboration with Trainers: Work closely with and supervise our team of trainers—qualified personal trainers and physiotherapy assistants—to implement the physiotherapy programs you design.
* Client Training Support: Assist during the initial training phase as children learn to walk and balance with their assistance dogs, ensuring safety and effectiveness.
* Ongoing Program Oversight: Provide guidance and support to trainers, monitor the implementation of therapy plans, and refine programs as needed to meet client progress and goals.
* Professional Input: Share insights and recommendations to enhance the overall effectiveness of DFD's programs.
Requirements
* A degree in Physiotherapy and current CORU registration.
* Demonstrated experience working with children with physical disabilities.
* A strong understanding of the challenges faced by children with mobility impairments and their families.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and empathetic approach.
* A genuine love for dogs and enthusiasm for working in a novel and innovative environment.
